Welcome to Barcelonaton FC
Was reading in the rags the other day that he's asking ridiculous wages and with the World Cup coming along he's wanting to make an impression so he can get a "bigger" club interested.

If true....Is it me or should the board just pony up and give him what he wants?

Really does do my head in when Moyes bags good players, makes them look international class, then we cant keep hold of them.

Discuss?

We can't afford to break our wage structure, if we had then Lescott may not have left. It is a tough one for the board but despite his performances we cannot be held to ransom and no doubt some deep pocketed club will come in for him at which point we get all we can and move on

All boils down to finances , although ambition plays a part. Pienaar is a good player and we miss him when he is out. In this modern day it is all about money, loyalty isn't a factor and sadly probably will never be again. Obviously there are exceptions , but generally this is the case. But who wouldn't move jobs if it means more money in the ole pocket.
Until the club is heavily invested in and the ambition is shown to move onwards and upwards we will remain a stepping stone club.

Come to an agreement tell him to earn his corn and if he does then pay his wages, we need to keep hold of our stars and playmakers.

But that's the thing that does my head in...boils down to finances and the limitations of the club.

If you wanna play with the big boys, you need to pay the big bucks. If not, you start all over again, go back to square one.

It annoying when you get a team together, players excel in that team, then you've got to get rid of them or they want to leave because they have bigger aspirations/money than the club can do/have.

Pienaar goes, then Bily fills in. If he does well, he'll be off etc etc.

Bad circle that is.

Pienaar hasn't earned big wages yet.

He only came good at the final third of last season.
Early in this season, he was pretty mediocre, and then found a bit of form before getting injured.

He was superb in the recent African tournament.

He is playing well again now, but he must keep it up and earn a new contract just like everyone else.

If he is desperate for another club to sign him, then he can sit on the bench for all I care.

Noone demands things at Everton.
They earn it.

Hasnt he earned it though?

When he's not in the side we look average to poor. Like Toccy says, he and Arteta are the heartbeat of the side. Through Bily in their and you have a classy, technically gifted hard working midfield.

Ofcourse he has, on the whole he's been a brilliant player for Everton and he's a player that we really should be looking to build around.
