Phone Contracts

Well yeah, I an afford to get a free phone now? and pay an extra £15 a month for the next two years. I can't afford to spend £400 for a phone today.

It's all about spreading costs - why pay more now when you don't have to?

carry on with the same phone for a while then on a cheaper tarif, then change it when you need to.
as soon as you get the phone a nice shiney new motor will catch your eye for certain, and then it'll be season ticket time again, and maybe a trip to germany.

I just do that, I keep my phone and when it dies I ring em up and tell them to send me a new one, which is normally 18months+ so my contract is up.

I mean clearly its all a big scam, but I cba with PAYG, its just easier to have a contract. Im not a big user really. And do have free calls on the Home phone anyway.

Your sir, are why the country is in ruins :P:lol:

As I say, its all about usage.

For my usage;

PAYG iPhone £449 (phone) + £120 (o2 PAYG usage package) = £569 a year.

Contract iPhone £0 (phone) + £900 usage (£75 a month/24 month contract) = £900 a year. (I'd need the minutes)

PAYG would save me £331 a year, and I would have a better quota.

But for you, the contract does sound better.

I also want to point out in this example, the PAYG is only the first year. The second year won't have the phone price included making the second year of ownership the kicker. Much lower by the time the 24 months have elapsed.

just been on to BT to try and get the cost of my business landline down.

they have said they can reduce the line rental by £12 per quarter. then they said that as it's always on divert, if i get a bt mobile (~which uses the vodafone network) then i wont pay for the calls that are diverted to my mobile which works out out at between £60 and £100 per quarter.
so if i take the av of say £75 per 1/4 thats £300 per year for calls saved and £48 on line rental.
they tell me that although they dont do the uma that orange do, they do wifi enabled phones that use voip when in range of any available free network (even abroad) and the calls are completely free. they tell me that all the networks do this now.

so the more you look into it, the more you can save, and there are a lot more options to consider, all of which becomes very confusing tbh.
i shall post the various permutations as i believe in sharing and that includes the confusion as well.

ghost is probably getting something nice and shiny as we speak, unfortunately it's the latest ifilling in a molar and not the latest offering from the fruit based electronics innovators.
