Decent enough signing, would be a great 4th choice center half to provide cover for Jags, Lescott and Yobo, sadly though I imagine he's to be Joleon's replacement.

Senderos would be a great signing as a backup CD and it's not a bad move for him either at this time since Jags is gone. With only Lescott and Yobo to contend with for 2 starting slots he's bound to get chances to prove himself. And when Jags gets back from his injury, Yobo will leave and it will still be just 2 other CD's for him to contend with.

no mention on the OS, i'm excited about this signing, established international that occasionally comes up with goals.

if moyes was looking to replace Lescott, he would set his sights much higher than senderos though. Yobo plus Senderos in the center is not terrible, but its a rather large step down from the lescott jagielka combination that worked so well for much of last season... i think moyes would show a little more ambition in building the central combination that will need to last us till jags comes back.

this signing might have even been to demonstrate our ambition to lescott. for a player that played out of position for a large part of his everton career, he doesn't strike me as the type to enjoy playing because theres noone else to play there. in addition to signing cover, moyes might have moved for senderos to show lescott that unlike city we won't coddle him, that we will really push him to his best because he will have to work hard, otherwise theres the bench

Tell you what, it shows how far we have come when we can regard Senderos as just "decent backup"

Only 24, plenty of international experience (30+ caps), experience at major European teams...

Wasn't Senderos in the Arsenal defence that broke the record for successive clean sheets?

It does show how far we've come I agree. Because Jags, Lescott and Yobo are all better than him.

Good to have a fourth decent centre half, but lets not pretend he's Beckenbauer. The gooner fans used to loathe him, in the same vein as United fans and Silvestre.

Just thinking that meself. You cant be a mug if you've played for Arsenal and AC Milan. CB is an area we are particularly strong in when all are fit. I dont think Senderos will be out of place. I fear it will be a signing that sees Lescott leave though.

Moyes came out earlier and said that he wanted to bolster our defence. Therefore I don't think Senderos is a replacement, but rather a backup. And having 4 international CD's in the squad is good since it would give a very strong conention for the starting positions when all are fit... even though the pair of Lescott-Jags would be hard to break.

Most Arsenal fans seem to think Senderos is decent, they hate Silvestre as well tho.

A good signing for us, i'm sure that Moyes can get the best out of him and put some pressure on Yobo to keep his mind in the game.

Will be a shame if Lescott does decide to go, but he's done us well and frankly i'm sure we could put the cash to better use :)
