Peter Reid appreciation thread

Every so often, when I've found myself awake abnormaly early on a Saturday, I've started a thread in recognition of a random Everton great, usually to distract us all from whatever is getting us down about things and remind us that we're best.

This week's frustration is a lack of transfer activity, and this week's player is Peter Reid. A member of possibly the greatest side we've ever had, Reid was seen by some as a risk upon signing, but more than proved his worth, essentially becoming the engine room of that side.

Take a look at this game from our last title winning season (Reid's goal is on 4:00) and discuss:

Remember that game. Heck looking back makes me laugh those shorts barely covered the "you know what"lol

Back then when you look at the game, they were players not like some of the pansies these days masquerading as such.

First game I ever seen him was at Anfield for Huton Schoolboys Final he had a great game where are scouts were? doing a Walsh no doubts lol joking
He was a terrier in midfield I recently read his diaries he spent more time in ice than in training what a player what a bargain!!

Gave his all in every game he played. He wouldn't hesitate to scream at anyone who wasn't putting a shift in. At 60,000 Pounds he was the bargain of the century. He,s fat he,s round he,s worth some millions of pounds.!!

Certainly knew how to put a tackle in.

I remember taking my then fiancé to her first game at Goodison - standing in the street end for the full effect - Reidy smashed one of the opposition in the centre circle and I think whoever the poor sod was that he bounced twice before the advertising in front of the paddock stopped him going any further!

I'm sure you can imagine the sort of muted response (not) that generated from the home crowd - I remember joining in with some calm and gentlemanly type clapping and my betrothed looking at me in a whole different light as we basically went mental and rejoiced in a way she had never seen before.

He was simply ace. Who would you rather have had at the time? Nobody.
