Peter Reid appreciation thread

Remember him as a young player alongside Sam Alladyce at Bolton in the mid to late 70's. They were a great team in the old 2nd Division. Reidy was brilliant then. He played against us in the two legged League Cup Semi in 77.

Loved him, used to set the tone for the rest of the team.
I think Goodison has always loved a good tackle and boy could he tackle.
I think his tackling overshadowed the rest of his game too, he was a great allround player as well.

That was the context yes. But it was never justified and those who hounded him from the terraces are hopefully suitably contrite now.
To be fair as I said he was in decline by then and we expected to be still winning or challenging for the title. The same people who were giving him a hard time idolised him in his prime and certainly still do now. Watching football is an emotive experience ,of the moment and you will always utter shouts which after a moments quiet contemplation may seem harsh. I mean I don't think every referee is utterly corrupt or lacking a father though to be fair many do resemble a ladies private parts.

Everyone from that 80s side are like gods to me , even Richo and Harper , I can't put into words the joy they gave me . When I've met players today , I don't get over fussed but if I have had the chance to meet those idols , I still get star struck . If I had it my way and we had the space , I'd build a statue to everyone of them . Only hope that all those young blues get just a bit of what we experienced. Magical days .

I'd still have him.

Although not the same player at all, Gana reminds me of him, loosely.

I'm too young to have seen Reidy, my dad is one of his biggest fans though! But what I've seen of him on video, would you not say Besic plays the most like him? His tackling is superb, shame he's injured I was hoping he'd put the injuries behind him this year (n)

Gana is looking good so far though hope he keeps it up!

Quite apt this thread! I can clearly recall the hysteria when Kendall bought him and Gray! Both crocks, both has beens the whingeing was outrageous! Some things never change! Reidy was the glue that held that great, great side together! Everything went through him, i still recall Bracewell like perpetual motion, winning the ball then getting it to Reidy to set up the play, :) happy days!
