Loads of Evertonians are getting close to suicide. Loads of blame being thrown about. Blame towards Kenwright for being skint, as usual. Blame towards Moyes for dithering and a reluctance to bring anyone in who his mum wouldn't approve of, as usual. Blame towards Evertons transfer policy - or lack of it. And am sure we can also blame Elstone for something. Dave, help me out mate.

But as frustrating as it is, maybe time to raise heads out of the crowd for a moment for a bit of perspective.

How have the other teams around us improved? Those who will be likely to around 4th/7th?

Arsenal
In: Vermaelen
Out: Adebayor, Toure
Improvement?: No.

Aston Villa
In: Downing
Out: Knight, Barry, Taylor, Laursen
Improvement?: No chance, Barry and Laursen are massive losses. Downing was an odd signing, he is no better than Young or Milner...

Everton
In: Jo
Out: Jacobsen, Valente, Van der Meyde
Improvement?: Not really, a slight one though in that we have offloaded deadwood. And before anyone starts, it doesn't matter if Jo was here towards the end of last year, we have pulled off a great move getting him back here. Big player for us this year.

Fulham
In: Helge Riise, Kelly
Out: Volz
Improvement?: No.

Portsmouth
In: Finnan, Mokoena
Out: Johnson, Paramot, Crouch, Davis and a few others
Improvement?: No

Tottenham:
In: Crouch, Naughton, Walker
Out: Walker, Gunter, Bent?
Improvement?: No

For me, out of the teams expected to be around the Europa league places, only City have strengthened and maybe Sunderland. It doesn't excuse our lack of signings, but it does offer some comfort. Things aren't that bad just yet. The 'just yet' depends on how the Lescott situation is handled.

Oh that's right take all the fun out of it

I agree though, only citeh pose any real threat and time will tell if buying a bunch of expensive guys will actually work

Nice post mate, i have put back the Gin and Paracetamols for the time being. We are still garbage in the transfer market though.

well it's just that, when other teams are not improving, we would have a good advatage if we did just that.... so i still think that the lack of signing from our part is stupid... but atleast yak is back when the season starts, and when arteta and jags is back we might not need new sinings, even though our right side might need it..

I don't get Moyes .
We were crying out for a winger , but he refused to play VDM . Yes , there were probs with VDM but still .
We were crying out for support to our right back position , but he let Jacobsen go when we had him for free really , and hasn't replaced him , and to be fair , Jacobsen looked a decent acquisition .
We had no strikers , but he still refused to give Anichebe a good run , yet still hasn't sold him .
Our squad isn't big enough to cope with good cup runs and not over play our players in the Prem , yet we are still yet to sign anyone on a permanent basis , and have still let players go , and we're on the verge of losing Lescott , but don't seem to have any quality players lined up to come in . I don't think all the blame lies in Kenwrights corner to be honest .

The way I see it is....

Citeh have spent £100million. To right them off would be a understatement.
Spurs dont really need a mass overhaul...they've got 'Arry, a manager perfectly capable at getting the best from the international players he's got at the club.

We...still have key players injured. A small squad. The possibility of having 1 1st team centre half for the start of the season. A terrible right side. Lack of funds.

BUT...we have chances to sign player....that eventually fall out of our grasp due to a number of factors.

I'd just like to see some improvements and progression from 5th. All we get the impression so far is a "we'll wait around, slap a bit celotape on that and see how it goes as it worked last year"

We can all say Spurs and Citeh are the only threats...well add Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man Utd because I want to be up there with them, not fighting Spurs and Citeh for the 5th, 6th, and 7th places.

and did'nt we sing some german youngster and some free transfer american ?

The season hasn't started yet fellas. We have the same players that finished fifth last season, with the addition of our 20 goal striker back.
Search back exactly 12 months or even 24 months on here. There were those predicting our bubble to burst, us to get relegated and that.
Weird: They weren't so vocal towards the end of the season.
You're all making massive assertions on scenarios you have in your heads.
To be flapping now, before a ball is kicked, is a bit over the top.
Or maybe it stands out on this forum which has never been fond of the flippant type.
Relax - ace things will happen probably.

I also dont get Moyes. Dont get me wrong, what he has done is nothing short of a miracle but unless he is given funds to strengthen the squad numbers, i cannot see him taking us any further. Fair enough, we have improved so much and are way better than those gloomy times when we was fighting survival, but how long will we be content in finishing 5th, 6th or 7th and maybe having a decent cup run as a bonus? That is not good enough for a club like ours, we need to make progress but we appear willing just to qualify for Europe each season and not reach that step further. Moyes cannot continue to rely on going through a season without injuries because eventually they will catch up on us and he wont be able to use his magic wand like he has done in the past.

I think that depends on how ambitious you are as a fan, some people want more than 5th place and the odd cup run, they don't class that as 'BOSS' or 'ACE' like you.

Everyone's entitled to there opinion and everyone has different expectations. I can't blame then to be honest, our poor dealings last summer messed up our Uefa cup run and we had a [Poor language removed] start to the season.

Some fans, myself included, want to see us go into the season and give ourselves the best possible chance. In the past we haven't done that and it means we are always catching up.

As for me, I'm nowhere near as worried as I was last season - atleast we have a team that is able to compete. I would like to see one or two players in before the Arsenal game though, I must say.

It's the same every summer, the same prophecies of doom. Anyone that's looked at the accounts would fully appreciate that unless we borrow money or sell we don't have any profit to invest in the playing squad. Lescott has yet to go and in case people have forgotten we're in a credit crunch so borrowing isn't easy.

The power of positive thinking man.
Oh, and the fact that history teaches us it will probably be alright.
