Remember that time everyone said signing John Stones was a waste of time and he'd never play a first team game and would be released to go trial at Woking or something inside two years?

Apparently not, as every time we sign someone like this the response is always the same!

I don't mind that so much if it's with a view that they will become first team players in 1 to 2 years or grow in value.

Problem in recent years has been that we haven't really bought in any youngsters that have developed. We really need to improve our hit rate for it to be a successful strategy.

Also need to do this alongside buying first team improvements not instead of.

If you’re not ready for the first team squad at 21 you’re just another Garbutt to me.

No, I don't remember anyone saying that. Maybe a few did, but not "everybody".

21/22 gives you the feeling if they are gonna cut the mustard, goalies less so mind.

But then are plenty of players who have moved up to the PL from lower leagues and made the grade. Most are called Jamie Vardy I would imagine.

Ashley Williams too. Not the best example though. Even Baines started at Division 2, with Wigan.

Oh there are tons of players who have moved up, as an established player in a lower league. i watched a young Andy Cole at Bristol City for 18 months or so, knocking in a ton as a 18/19 year old. But when you have been at a club as a youth player, been out on loan, if you aint ready at 21/22, not sure you ever will be.

Took a peek at Kane at Spurs. Loan, loan, loan, 21/22, Bang.
