Pat Nevin Signing

From interviews at the time, I'm sure I remember Both Steven and Sheedy saying they would like the chance to play more centrally (probably talking about number 10 position though that wasn't part of the football lexicon back then).
Could be another reason for the signing. Pretty sure Steven was playing as an inside forward when he and Nevin started together

When both Peter Reid and Paul Bracewell were injured in the Lineker season, Sheeds moved very successfully into centre mid on occasion and from that position put a lot of chances on Lineker’s plate.

And yes, Steven became more of an inside forward than a touchline hugging winger like Patsy or, more recently, Deulefeu.

I always thought he was a good player, Nevin, but he was a bit like Beagrie, although to a lesser extent were he'd overdo it. With Tricky it was a bit more Beckham esk were he'd make a yard and get the cross in straight away.

Leather biker jacket, Guardian sticking out of his back pocket, and checking out the paintings in the WAG.

What a cool dude he was.

Like others, the memory is fuzzy after Howard departed for Spain. I remember Nevin, Mcdonald and McCall were bought as direct replacements for Steven, Stevens and Reidy. They never really stood a chance of replacing those players despite being given the opportunity.
I had seen Nevin play for Chelsea at Goodison a season or two before when Chelsea had a weird green kit and he stood out for them, low center of gravity and quick feet. He was one of those players that always looked like the ball was glued to his feet. He was no Tricky Trev though.
