Why? For me its a no brainer, Lescott is awesome in that position

I agree Lescott is good at LB but he's even better in the middle IMHO. Maybe a 20 year old is one for the future anyway. I hope Baines doesnt go - aren't we supposed to be looking at another left back from Leicester too?
I suppose with the curse of the left back never far from anyone's mind, it's probably better to have at least 5 in the squad just in case it strikes again!

Lescott said in a recent interview that he wants more chances at centre back. I'd give him a run there and see how it goes. If the balance isn't right then we can always put him back to left back.

I think Baines deserves a go. He showed promise at the start of the season, he's got the attributes to play there and he's at a good age. Obviously he has to prove himself but I think given a chance he will.

The only player I want to see changed from the defense is Neville. At the moment he's the weak link and we need a more rounded right back. Baines, Lescott, Yobo and Jagielka are all fine by me.

If Lescott is forced to play left back for another season we will have an unhappy puppy on our hands. Centre back is his preffered position and in my opinion his best position. I still think Jags could be a solid right back for us- thats where he made his England debut and where he played for long periods at the blades.

Been plenty of cases of players who say they want to play in there preferred position but end up playing there whole careers in a different one. Just a matter of Moyes persuading him the left back position is the 1 for him.

Lescott is as good a centre back as he is a left back in my opinion. Unlike Jagielka and Yobo he doesn't have many lapses and has good distribution would would stop alot of hoofs.

I see your point though. It all depends on what suits the team more. Lescott at left back or Lescott at centre back. We'll have to wait and see.

I'm willing to give Baines a go before I make my decision on him. He's certainly got the qualities but its just about getting a run of games and seeing what his consistency is like.

Nice to have you back HB. What Everton websites have you being visiting since you left GOT?

Just ask john carew and dean ashton and the half wit who plays for oldham
fa cup last year goodison gave him ogoing over the one who went to jail for drink driving

You could easily say the same for lescott: "just ask Shaun Wright Philips" after he forced lescott to score the own goal...

...he isnt AVERAGE

Jagielka isn't average at all. He's a very good defender and good back up for the likes of Yobo and Lescott.

You can do what you've just done with alot of players. The likes if Villarreal, Fiorentina and Fulham defenders how good Yobo is.

It seems fans get easily decieved by Jags last gasp tackles but forget he has normally caused the problem in the 1st place by either being in a poor position or lacking in concentration.
Arsenal away being a prime example when he let a 6ft 4 blonde striker waltz into his space and let him have a free header to score.
Jags is not a good player in the slightest, he is average......at best and should be nowhere near a european sides squad never mind the 1st 11

Clearly Moyes dissagrees.

The amount of clean sheets we got last season with Jagielka in defense proves his worth. He is an excellent out and out defender and has gritty qualities that Yobo doesn't have. Some games he's suited to and some games he isn't.

I have no problems with people prefering the Yobo-Lescott combination as I do myself but It bugs me when people say he's not even good back up. He is and he's proved that.

We had the best defensive record outside the top four and Jagielka along with Lescott and Yobo was a big part of that. Whether he's in the first eleven next season or he's a squad player he'll do a good job for us. I have no doubts about that.

How does a thread about a possible transfer target turn inot the same argument about Jagielka we have had numerous times before on here?
