Ozil quits Germany

Özil admitted the meeting was to "respect the highest office of my family's country". It's a bit more than courtesy, tho' it must also be said the meeting was in London, not Turkey itself. How planned it was has never been clear.

Actually quite clear to me, Tosun, Gundogan and Ozil (all are Turkish descent players born in Germany) met in London the day before Erdogan arrived, probably Erdogan's office contacted them, so it happend. Don't think it was truly planned way before.

Tosun is anything but Erdogan fan if you check his personal life thru his Instagram account, secular guy in any way, same goes to his wife, you can see them drinking alcohol etc, if we can't say that about Tosun, why can some Germans think thay way about Ozil? Just bcs he holds German passport, doesnt delete his ethnic background. It is just a courtesy, all of them probs thought it would be rude to reject the president of their families, that's really all.

it absolutely blows my mind that player can be so stupid. It's like Tom or Sam Curran (cricketers) having a selfie with Robert Mugabe! The ECB would ban them on the spot. The DFB should have booted him from the WC squad instantly.

I love Ozil as a player but he has gone way down in my estimations with the racism card

because that president tries to de stabilise Germany and insult them at every oppurtunity. He doesn't just hold a German passport... he is German

Good point. That's probably the most likely scenario of the whole thing, especially considering Erdogan's strongman hold on popular opinion.

Good point. That's probably the most likely scenario of the whole thing, especially considering Erdogan's strongman hold on popular opinion.

You should be very rude against a dictator, being German or Turkish should not have any bearing on this.
(and really, if I were with Erdogan within the EU, I'd probably just kill Erdogan on the spot and expects a pardon from someone)

Oezil's multiple flirtations with Erdogan means its very hard for the left to support him without being accused as a looney left.
