That's two 60+ year old has beens who have only achieved great things with stupidly large transfer budgets.

Each time you hire one of those they want to tear the side apart and bring in their own players immediately, they are practically nearly dead and see these jobs as little bonus jobs to top up their retirement pots, and therefore only ever think short term, why is a 61 year old going to care about developing that promising 17 year old in your U18's so that he can be captaining you in ten years, they never look further than the current season these types.

Duncan Ferguson will know who the bad eggs are, he knows who the prospects are, he's as hard as nails so going to naturally command a degree of respect from all men, unlike Roy Keane who everybody knows couldn't knock out a w*nk. And he has far too integrity to stick around waiting for compensation of it all goes wrong.

The last time you appointed a former player it was Howard Kendell and that went terribly didn't it, can't believe a load of you are calling for the return of Martinez who you all forced your board to sack 5 years ago.

Duncan Ferguson is the one.

Nothing you ever say or do will interest anyone ever.

Reported for ageism.
Now sod off back down your own end you little rugrat before I tell yer ma

Big Dunc really gave the club a lift last time, beating Chelsea 3-1, then drawing against Man Utd, Arsenal and Leicester.

But people see the "basic football we played". Not realizing we HAD to go back to basics to get anything from those games.

A bit like now. Nobody knows Duncans football philosophy. But one thing is for sure, he wants effort. He requires you put a shift in, something our players haven't done since he was in temporary charge and before that Moyes

You win one game against us and you start giving it the big one.....:D

Exactly.

Also not scared to have his own ideas. He was the one that put pushed Dom to believe in himself. He was the one that put Richy up top with him and the two had a great run together.

Personally think he'd give Dobbin, Gordon, Dom all a huge boost.

I just don't personally understand the fear of taking Dunc on mate. Already posted on another thread, but the press this morning are calling this a 'huge risk'. This for a man who has been at the club for years, is now a highly qualified coach, is no doubt respected by the players, has worked with Koeman, Ancelotti and (ahem!) Benitez and has the passion and the balls to call out the frauds in the squad.

And yet the same reporters are calling for Rooney, who has been at it barely a season and has no prem league experience.

And as for 'basic football' - really?? How would those people describe the footy we've been playing for the last 3 seasons under different managers, once the initial fairy dust has blown away and the gutless cowards decide to down tools again?

On what basis ? He has been 1st team coach for the past 5 or 6 managers.
What exactly has he been coaching them as for the majority of this time they have been a shambles. I don’t understand the logic to the comment.

You're just trying to carve a path to keeping your lot up. We see through your facade!

Seriously though he probably isn't ready. The stuff we played in his last spell was extremely basic. I can't see multiple months of that going well and I'm not sure where he'd have made progress toward producing better since then.

He came in and had to go up against Chelsea, United and Arsenal in quick succession. He didn't have time for anything other than basic, but it served him well. Give him til the end of the season at least, so he knows he's got time and see what he can do then. There doesn't appear to be any standout candidates at the minute anyway.

Thanks, now go worry about your own problems.

For me I would give Dunc the reigns until the end of the year. Tell him he has the job until then and can apply for it permanently like all others and his results and methods will be taken into account. Seen the comments about basic this and that and fair, he played 442 most of the time kept it simple as the situation demanded. What he brought over and above that was effort, commitment, passion, drive and the want to give from the players that was missing then and missing now. I will take that over swapping and changing and confusion, he can stamp his print and methodology next year if given the job. Appointing Dunc now, yes on a very limited budget, loans separate discussion / thread, allows for a considered approach in the summer with more budget allowed regardless of manger.
