You are quite right. But how many of those "maybe average players who don't expect to play every week" should be guys over 33, or guys with constant injury problems? They aren't depth if they CAN'T play.Yeah Pienaar hasn't played for ages so remains to be seen if he can prove he still is a useful squad member.
People forget that we need an actual squad. If we want European football next season then we need a big squad, which includes maybe average players who don't expect to play every week.
Exactly this. I don't understand why people think crocks that we pay to be injured 30 weeks a season are good depth. Players like Lennon are good depth, players like Pienaar or Gibson at this point are just a waste of wages. You are quite right. Oviedo should get one, the rest can go really. Osman will no doubt get another year, and I have a sneaky feeling Gibbo will too although he doesn't deserve it. Hibbert and Pienaar should definitely be going now. We have a pretty big squad currently and we wouldn't miss them if all but Oviedo went. What's more, McGeady can go on a free as far as I'm concerned.
Osman I think may get another year,
Don't think Oviedo will get a new work permit, he will have to go unfortunately.

Care to suggest how we'd replace these players then? We don't have the money to be paying £5m+ for players who aren't going to be first choice. You are quite right. I disagree. We look like we've got enough depth right now, but if we're to play European football next season that could be around 15 extra games. We need numbers.even without them we have quality cover in each position in addition to which we have some cracking youngsters coming through .. ditching the listed 'out-of-contract' players will encourage said youngsters and also free up a considerable sum in wages.
