Our window vs our rivals window

i think we've had the 2nd bets window out of everyone - behind chelsea of course, who even though they've lost their big game player drogba, have brought in some right starlets, still think they needed one more top striker though. city have had a bad transfer window IMO, garcia is decent and definitely and upgrade on barry and de jong, but at the same time not great. johnson is a decent player, but they've gone backwards by replacing him with sinclair who is half the player & rodwell - i doubt will do too much. with aguero out for a long time, they're still okay with backup strikers, but silva seems so far off the player he was at the start of last season.

still undecided on spurs, friedel didn't exactly do anything wrong and was great again yesterday so, regardless of how good lloris is, it's not really a position they needed strengthening. hell i'd take their 4th choice keeper cudicini over howard. VDV is a great player but didnt seem interested, they've spent a lot of money on two cracking players in siggurdson and dempsey, but i doubt both will be playing at the same time, it will be one of the other. dembele is quality, they won't miss modric, a way over hyped player. they needed another striker though. liverpool's has been laughable, much weaker than last season, little to no goal threat, having downing as a LB will be great to watch if he's up against mirallas. newcastle have done great to keep all their players but really needed to strengthen with europe in mind. arsenal bought well early, but podolski won't score more than 12/13 imo, giroud wont do anything special and their defence is far too suspect especially seeing as vermaelen is so injury prone.

hoping we'll get this belgian CM in and see how he goes, having a backup for gibson, considering his injury career was necessary imo even before we sold rodwell, seeing as moyes would still place faith in neville. lets hope this is no more where midfield is concerned. think mirallas will be a great signing whilst oviedo will barely play as an understudy to the ever present baines. his chance may come when pienaar goes to african nations, but the fact mirallas can play there may mean he will still be backup. anichebe deserved one last chance after his cameo late last season, strikers aren't cheap and there were a few decent ones out there on a free we could have maybe looked at. i'd rather have vic than owen though, but if he doesn't do anything decent when given the chance this season, we definitely need to look at a senior replacement as vellios and kennedy are too young to rely on should jela get a massive injury. obviously if donovan comes in, along with mirallas, that versitality could compensate for such an injury.

overall, we'll definitely compete and should qualify for europa. AVB and arsenal's lack of goals may mean we can go further

I've got mixed feelings about this window.

On the one hand we've done a cracking deal in offloading Rodwell and recruiting a few quality players to fill the team and squad out.

However, there's this mass hysteria about how wonderful the window was and what a great job bill and Dave did however we still operate on a "sell to buy" policy.

If you look at the other clubs who were spending money and recruiting we weren't even in the races. Other clubs and **** clubs at that we spending money without having to sacrifice players to fund it.

I think that expectations have been lowered so far by disappointing windows that evertonians now treat a zero net spend as successful and something to rejoice and rip into the reds for.

I was pleased with the names we recruited but I don't think it's a time for back slapping the likes of bill and elstone at what a brilliant job they have done by not spending a penny whatsoever.

Don't hear anyone backslapping Bill on here, plenty saying we had a great window, are you suggesting otherwise?
I will credit the board for selling Everton to Mirallas over Arsenal, not an easy task, but you know what, its not what you spend, its how you spend it. And as others have mentioned, a lot of players were bought for silly money that are really quite ****e.
What's wrong with appreciating what we achieved?

Spurs fans that I know are more than happy with their dealings. Lloris will replace Friedel, Vertonghen will be their starting CB alongside whoever is currently fit & they've brought in 3 midfielders to replace Modric.

I'm not convinced that AVB will work there, particularly alongside Levy, but their squad is far better than ours at the moment. In fact, they probably have too much depth which is why they wanted to get rid of Jenas & Huddlestone.

From a Blue perspective though, we've improved our own team & squad from last year with no major financial outlay.

I think we did well to bring the average age of the squad down and offload some players who weren't contributing meaningfully for one reason or another (Cahill, McFadden, Yobo). Given that few here can claim to have seen the majority of our signings play more than a handful of times though, surely our acquisitions are being overhyped a little so far? Not just by us but the rest of the media, who ahead of the WBA game seemed to be falling over themselves to make us their underdog-darlings for the year (which is fine, like - if the shoe fits).

We know Pienaar is great and Naismith has already shown enough to suggest he can at least be a useful fringe player for years, in my opinion (and maybe more than that). Oviedo, Mirallas and Ofoe could all flop though. So we shouldn't get carried away.

I expect we'll probably be the main beneficiaries of Rodwell leaving with the gift of hindsight. I don't see either the player or his new club gaining an awful lot from it.

Liverpool replaced Adam with Sahin - who's better than all our signings combined.

While I agree, in principle that Sahin is a good player, I think that this was one of the most ridiculous transfers of the entire window. £5m for a 1 season loan, with no buy clause, for a player who was bought for £8.5m on a five year deal and took part in 11 games last season. Not to mention that after that deal, even with £1m loan fee for Carroll, they couldn't afford the extra for Dempsey. Though I do feel there was a little more with that Dempsey thing athn we will know, I have a gut feeling that he would've been a little more expensive for Liverpool than Villa or Spurs, as I can't help but think that they would've thrown in a small fine for the tapping up, as a sweetner, I also think tha Fulham haven't played him in order to ramp up the price of any fine Liverpool owe, saying that he wa far too unsettled to play cause of what Liverpool done etc etc, thats the real reason I think the deal never went through.

On the positives, I am made up with our window, after our defeat to WBA, I wasn't even bothered, it hardly registered with me, there will be plenty of teams that go there this year and struggle to get 3 points. Clarke seems to have them really well organised, like Stoke, and the Hawthornes could become a bit of a fortress.
