Our Academy is a Failure

Winning youth leagues isn't the main thing. Producing talented players with the right character for PL football is what matters. The two don't always follow hand in hand

Well i'm not sure what more they can do.

How many other teams have a better academy than ours? Very very few i'd guess.

It's all very well being negative about things Everton, but maybe people should look at the wider picture sometimes.

Even if our only produces 'Championship quality' player that's still significantly better than many many other clubs get.

We turn out class youngsters, then chuck them in to a first team of mostly dross, if we had a quality first team the kids would thrive through staggered integration.

The academy is our only good point at the moment.

It's been that way for a while. I always thought Cadamarteri would have had a better chance of making it had he come into a btter side at the time. What we don't do is produce forceful personalities, but, again, that's something that's hard to demonstrate in a weak team, and it's something that can't be taught, maybe. Davies and Kenny may be exceptions, and Dowell, too, judging by his willingness to shoot from distance.

Played a handful of games for the under 23’s after we signed him from elsewhere. Same with Stones and Holgate, they aren’t our academy lads really, just lads we’ve taken the credit for.

It was the first team manager at the time who moved on players like Mustafi and Dier, nothing to do with the Academy moving them on.
