It’s not like we were ever going to be in for him ha. Rather he go there than over the road!

How much are they paying for him?

A lot of Kopites I know thought they werre getting 2 of Sancho/Havertz/Werner. WhenWerner went they were convinced 1 of the other 2. Looks like 0.

They are a fair bit behind Liverpool are Chelsea and United, and I'm not wholly convinced in either manager, however they are building serioys squads if they get them over the line.

Just from the outside they seem to have;
1) A wealthy owner
2) No issues re FFP
3) No transfers made last summer so again money that is available
4) A team olayers can get into, so they will want to come.

Very few teams have that combination.

Chelsea don’t seem to make that many bad buys, and if they do they’re always of th RPG ops they can move on quickly (like Morata, Bakayoko). You can point to Batshuyai, Emerson maybe, perhaps even Barkley, but on the main when they buy a big player it tends to turn out well. They lose Hazard and Pulisic comes in looking brilliant for example. They seem to always have a squad that any manager can make a trophy winning first 11 from. We have a squad that managers struggle to pick an 11 from.

It shows the gap between us and the top though. United had a dip and look at the response in terms of signings. World record fees for a midfielder, defender and now British record on a player. Same as with Arsenal and the cost of their front three. Even if we weren’t hamstrung by FFP we’d struggle to live with that spending.

In good news though it looks as though Chelsea City and United are fed up of Liverpool’s dominance and are at least making moves to come back stronger.

Well yes probably. Unless FFP goes, we are not shopping in that pool, and even if it does we may not. We have to be smart about things, there is a route to the top but whether we have the people to execute the plan I highly doubt.

Arsenal I think will fall behind a bit, as will Liverpool and I believe Spurs. Mourinho wil be a disaster for them, and that stadium could end up being a bit of a millstone. If United and Chelsea come good, and can see it through, in 2 years they are going to have wonderful teams. Sancho, Greenwood, Rashford, Martial etc in one and Havertz, Werner, Abraham, Pulisic, Gilmour, Hudson Odoi etc in the other. Arsenal have a good group too, but probably not enough 22-26 currently (interesting where Liverpool are also very bare)

Once that top 3 start to slow down, and Firmino is already showing signs they've got problems. Minamino and Origi (albeit not against us) & Shaqiri are woeful. It's going to be funny seeing the fume as Chelse and United zoom past them, with City maintaining themselves with mega spend as usual.

Chelsea sort of look like the club I'd like us to be. Very very competent people behind the scenes, a great academy (with lots of investment), shrewd negotiators, ruthless etc. They've kind of made themselves into how a big club thinks, the Russians money is helpful but as you say they are very sustainable. Even last season with no Russian money, 3rd and a cup final. Some effort really.

Arsenal supposedly getting Willian on a free and Coutinho on loan.

They need to sort out more pressing areas dirst imo
