Yep, it's the classic if you take a shot at the king you had better not miss, thing.

The two best case scenarios for a home owner or a) they have no weapons and b) they're trained and deadly.

If the homeowner has a weapon but isn't trained in combat situations then statistically they're more likely to be hurt with their own weapon than hurt an intruder.
