One small gripe from yesterday

Khalekan

Player Valuation: £80m
I can't see the logic of managers making subs late on to "run the clock down".

If indeed that was the reason for Naismith coming on during stoppage time yesterday, as the TV commentator said it was.

There were three minutes to be added on and the refs always add an extra minute or so to make up for this.

That shot from Giroud came after the three allotted minutes were up so the move could well have bitten us on thye ass.

Thankfully....it didn't (y)

A substitution stops play. I.e Arsenal may have the momentum. It breaks it up and gives us a rest.
Isn't there some sort of rule with a sub for additional minutes?

I was also surprised at that, as it's not in Bobby's nature. Maybe there was a tactical reason for it, which while defensive in mind is still more valid than just running the clock down.

I just assumed he wanted a fresh pair of legs on to do some more running for the final couple of minutes. It was an attacking midfielder for another, not a defender for Barkley so it weren't really a negative one.

We never try and break up the play by our players feigning injury. You watch any other Premiership team and once they go in front their players start falling like flies. I'm proud that were not like that but [Poor language removed] me when Webb booked Howard for time wasting yesterday I was not far off being furious lad.

Naismith was more likely to poach a winner than give a goal away, and it wasn't him that allowed Giroud space for the 'speculative' shot.

Do appearance bonuses still exist? Added motivation for squad players?

Disagree with that one mate. He normally brings on a late sub, though it depends what you call late I guess, whether its just dying seconds i.e Naismith in the 90th+ or whether you consider dying minutes... 80+ as the same thing?

Our last 4 games:

Arsenal - Naismith came on in the 92nd
Stoke - Jelavic and Mirallas came on in the last 10
Man United - Naismith came on in the 93rd minute
Liverpool - Stones and Osman came on in the last 10 minutes

Like others have said, it breaks the momentum, it probably gives players a short but probably welcome break as well, some leg it over to take on a bit of water for the final push etc and fresh legs when the opposition are shattered help both you and your team mates because when they don't want to run, you being able to do the running for them to pass to must be very welcome.
