I like the Olympics but this one should have been cancelled.
I'm also not happy with the bloated format with every sport under the sun now included. Quite simply if you can't answer yes to 'Would an Olympic medal be the ultimate goal in your given field?' then it should be jettisoned.
Boxing is allowed just on the basis for an amateur it is the biggest thing.

Olympic boxing is massive in quite a large number of countries. Definitely deserves a place over golf, basketball, baseball, bmx, skateboarding and tennis.
I'm usually a fan of the Olympics but, like with most other recent sporting events, I simply can't get enthusiastic about it. Maybe that'll change as it goes on.
Does anyone have any idea how many GB Sport predict us to get?

Just don't see the point of having something like the Olympics, which Japan have spent billions on, being spectatorless, why not just cancel it? Or push the games back to 2024, and so on?

I agree with your second point. But why cancel it? Be rubbish without crowds, and the COVID protocol money isn’t coming out of my pocket so I don’t care, something to watch isn’t it?

It should’ve been cancelled but I’ve got my Union Jack flag out and will be beaming the Union Jack flag out through the kitchen skylight every night by way of a searchlight. I’ll even play ‘Gold’ by Spandeu Ballet if we win a gold medal through the especially installed PA system for my neighbours to hear.

Without crowds the 100M and all the other blue riband events just aren't the same. Could just be a school sports day. Stick an * against it just like the RS's title... ;-)

No. I mean, maybe if we're still in a pandemic, but just seems like a big waste. Why bother dragging athletes through isolation etc, for no fans?
It's a bit different than a game of football, which can, admittedly, be watched, as it happens on a weekly basis, having it empty, must be gutting for the athletes, as it's the pinnacle of their career, isn't it?
So true, I always use diving as an example. After about 5 minutes you are talking about over rotation and the size of splashes as if you are a full on expert.
Absolutely love the Olympics, however, this time around might be a bit hard to get properly into it.

Still be the pinnacle of their sport/career for most of them. And many can’t wait another 3 years. Not just age wise. Boxers who plan on turning pro etc.
It won’t be the same but still should go ahead, in my opinion.
