I hate football
Kids these days don't know how lucky they are.

After cricket last night, two of our youngsters were squabbling over which racing game was the best on their xbox, got some of us older ones discussing the best games we've ever played and how these youngsters have definitely missed out on the development of gaming over the past twenty+ years.

We tried to come up with the three best games that we'd ever come across. The sort of thing that when you loaded it up made your jaw drop as it was that much better than the other stuff about. After a couple of beers I decided on my three, all harking back to my Amiga days.

The Secret of Monkey Island
Sensible Soccer
Football Manager
(the first SI offering)

Was difficult to ignore some other games I spent hours and hours playing such as Madden 92, NHL 92 (both MegaDrive), Super Mario Bros 3, Goldeneye (N64). Would be interesting to get another take on this from you lot too...

I may be a young 'un but I've played my fair share of older games.

Super Mario Bros. 3 remains one of my top 3 ever games.

The Secret of Monkey Island is fantastic, although I actually prefer Monkey Island 2.

Pac-man is an obvious one, but I adore it.

Sonic 2 is another.

Oh and if Goldeneye is old then I suppose Pokémon Yellow is too, now? That's my top ever game, taking nostalgia firmly into account!

Wings of Fury, Populous, Sim City 1.1, Lemmings, Wings, Defender of the Crown, Silk Worm mk 2, The New Zealand story, Bubble Bobble.. Good times with a lot of great games. Now I mostly play PES, when I was a kid there was a lot of great options to choose from.

Get out.

Impossible to pick 3....

Kick off 2 - flawed genius.

Pinball Dreams/Fantasies - Played these for hours and hours - much like I am with Pinball FX2.

Lemmings and Worms - both were amazing fun.

Populous - Not sure if it was the original but it was the first of it's kind I saw. I AM GOD.

Flashback - I <3 Delphine

The Bards Tale
- I spent hours wandering round not really having a clue what I was doing - but I loved it.

I'll try and narrow it down....

A top 3 huh

I'd probably go with

Toejam and Earl (will always top these threads for me)
NHL 94
NBA Live 95

How good was that game! Was it Camron? The main fella?

OK

Cruise for a Corpse - probably my favourite game of all time.

Sensible Soccer - Probably just pips the erratic KO2 with sheer lovability and playability. (Speedball 2 a close third)

Dune/Dune 2 - Classic and ace. C&C copied it but never bettered it - well it probably did like, but not for me.

Football Manager? Championship Manager surely!

Showing my age like but...

Chucky Egg for ZX Spectrum
Treasure Island Dizzy for C64

And a bit newer.

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri.

Sensible Soccer was a awesome game
Championship Manager
The New Zealand Story
Cannon Fodder
Lemmings
And of course Daily Thompsons Decathlon :)

Is it just me that hated cartoony, cutesy bollocks?

I always hated them, even as a 7 year old with my Sinclair 48k.

You're very right...Champ Manager. Got sucked in by the rebrand following the SI/Eidos split.

Eh?

Football Manager is CM now. The game masquerading as Championship Manager is absolute dogturd.

First one I remember playing was CM93 - still have the box (it now hides a porn dvd that my mate 'lent' me 8 years ago).

Or do you mean the original Football Manager from about 1982? That was class.
