The Conjuring thread got me to wondering what you horror film aficionados thought was the absolute scariest film you've ever seen. So bad that you swore you'd never watch it again.

The original Texas chainsaw massacre - I have the dvd but never put it on. The head bashing with a sledgehammer scene is truly awful.

The Exorcist freaked me out as a youngster but I have watched it several times since.

Modern slasher horror like Hostel is now so OTT it's boring.

It's all in context.

As a child I was terrified of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, at around 14 John Carpenter's The Thing was the height of horror.

Early 20's I watched Ringu the Japanese horror and it really did scare me.

Mine was a film called threads, centering around nuclear annihilation. Scary for a 6 year old that. The finality of nuclear conflict and the insignificance of human life.

The Exorcist. Don't like watching it now as an adult, ****ing disturbing, even if it is an old film, it's so well made it creeps the hell out of me.

Oh God, "Threads" is horrific. I don't remember finding horror movies particularly scary, they're just kinda daft for the most part. The film I've probably found most disturbing, while not a horror, is Requiem for a Dream.
