It's time for you to ponder me! I entered this place a yank watching yanks play. I had the wrong understanding of the word scouse. I wrongfully thought it meant criminal or thug. So I said, "I hate yous ("yous" that's pretty slick yeah?)". I realize I was wrong in that "youtube assessment" and decided I would make another drunken post to counter my previous drunken post, don't try this at home kids! Hopefully I don't offend as many people this time. I probably wont because I'm nearly finished with this post and can't think of anything more to write.

I will say that I cried when I first learned of the Hillsborough disaster. Because of that I have a soft spot in my heart when I hear YNWA. I'm sure you as blues do as well. I am too stupid to think of anything else to say this week. Ok so my weekly drunken post is finished.

why would i feel emotional when i hear the anthem of our closest rivals ? even when we had friendly derbies we used to boo that out of the ground, you clearly have no idea of the intensity of the relationship between the 2 clubs.
it was even being sang by a blue when they decided to start singing it.


oh we hate bill shankly and we hate st.john
but most of all we hate big ron
and we'd hang the kopites 1 by 1
on the banks of the royal blue mersey
to hell with l'pool and rangers too
throw them all in the mersey
and we'd fight fight fight with all our might
for the boys in the royal blue jersey

I just don't associate it with the Hillsborough disaster. I hate everything about the club & when I hear the song I think of that hatred rather than the 96 unfortunate people who went to a game of football & didn't come back

I can't say any more than, a tear was shed when I put 2 and 2 together. Hillsborough and YNWA. This to me would extend beyond rivalry to me. If I lived there these would be fellow Liverpudlians.

we aint gonna start singing it every week mate because it isn't what you seem to suggest i.e. a memorial for the dead, and it isn't the reason that they sing it either, it gets booed out whoever sings it (celtic etc) cos as far as we are concerned it's a redshoite anthem and we dont want to hear it.

Yeah you're right. It's just an emotional reaction as I learn the history. I knew YNWA wasn't a memorial but it just fit so well as I learned about it. There have been some truly unforgettable moments associated with Hillsborough (and other disasters) that it's hard not to associate YNWA with them.

As a Yank, for obvious reasons, I see things through larger glasses these days. The passion you guys show for football I have for western civilization.

Heatmeiser you're the only guy holding on to this. I clearly said I didn't diss scousers in this post but in a different post I did because my understanding of the word was wrong. I thought it meant thieves and thugs which I hate. Obviously scouse means more than that. I get it. Truce?

Visitors to this site from all corners of the globe and from all football persuasions are welcome on here as far as I'm concerned. It's not your fault if you don't know the unspoken 'rules of the house'

The rivalry between Everton and Liverpool is as old as both clubs. It has been mostly a friendly affair but hotly contested with no quarter given. The derby matches themselves (games between Everton and Liverpool) have always been passionate partly because the supporters would have to meet up at work on the following Monday. The supporters of the winners would mercilessly make fun of their rivals. Still happens today.

Nowadays, things are a little different. Liverpool have gone very international and have something approaching a global 'brand' (we wish...). So the very local nature of the encounters has been diluted somewhat. And it's got a lot less friendly.

Some people on this site absolutely hate everything to do with that club. Songs, players, etc. Others (me included) don't hate Liverpool supporters but get a warm glow when they lose and want to thrash them when our teams meet.

Many families have both blue and red supporters in them so they have to 'get along' - often with humour making things easier. E.g. Liverpool fans blowing up tesco carrier bags like balloons when this huge UK retailer was about help us pay for our new stadium. Thankfully that idea's dead now. Very funny at the time, though.

I'll never join in that song - even after Hillsborough. I stood in silence instead.
