Off the deep end

Actually....

The part of the team that everybody was satisfied with let us down today, and the part that needed strengthening performed admirably.

The defense takes the blame in this one.

We will, our play today was better than in our previous games, but lacked cutting edge unfortunately. Arteta had an incredible chance, but James equally made an incredible save, [Poor language removed] YAK TOOK THE PEN AND [Poor language removed] [Poor language removed] UP!

The defense has been bad so far this season, but we'd expect that to get better. We still have our best players from last season. Cahill, Pienaar and others still to come back from injury.

COYB!!!!!!!

i was wondering about the carsley effect - who was picking up johnson?

can the defence (made up of internationals) be so devoid of confidence without carsley that they turn to jelly come the sound of z-cars?

It's a dig at the moaners. Long season ahead, we will get better.

I hope you're right. But as someone with a propensity for seeing my glass as half empty, I'd rather not be labeled a lemming. I'm sure you would also prefer not to be labeled after something which is famous merely as a follower of his fellows. No offence intended. (y)

I agree, but these opening games are all important. Games against the 3 who came up and home games against 3 teams that could very well finish in the other 4th-7th slots are ones we needed to take, and could have taken, maximum points from.

Seems that way.

As well as the goal Johnson near the end got the ball and just ran straight through midfield as though they weren't there.

A strong defence and a strong attack mean nothing without a strong midfield.

It seemed blatantly obvious to anyone thats where we were gonna have trouble this season ans lo and behold we do.

A convoy of cars capable of going at 100mph will only tavel at 50mph if thats all the slowest car is capable of. So doesnt matter how many Porsche 911s you have if you have to carry a knackered old skoda.

Right now, I think we should be thinking top half as a target.

A few wins under our belt and I'm still optimistic we can push into a top 6 position. A run of luck, be it bad or good, often makes all the difference to how the season pans out. And hopefully Champions League Spurs will lose their 3rd match against Chelsea.

Good point.

Remember how Spurs started last year. As poorly as we have if I remember correctly. Once they got the ship righted, they worked their way up the table.

No reason we can't do the same.
