Player Valuation: £950k
The BBC gossip column todays says that Newcastle are in talks with Hamburg to sign Nigel De Jong for 3 million. If this is the case and he is available for that price, he is a must buy for us. In my opinion, he was better than Engelaar who we were linked with signing for 6 million. Surely he would choose us over the barcodes as we can offer European football, saying that Newcastle will probably offer him 80k a week!

De Jong's really improved over the last few years. I never rated him at Ajax, he just looked like a half decent right back. Now he seems to have got his head down, found his position and worked hard. He's an accomplished centre midfielder nowadays. Tenacious, hardworking, good on the ball and always looks for it. Continaully drops deep and supports his back four which is something we lack. Only Fernandes could do that and he's not with us anymore.

He's supposedly Pienaar's best mate so maybe that could be useful. The only thing he lacks is height and whilst I'd like to see a bigger midfielder come in but it shouldn't stop us looking at smaller players, especially good ones. 3 million would be a bargain.

The thing I'm worried about is I don't actually think Moyes knows who his targets are. I think he had an idea a few months ago but the low budget has made him look in other players. I could be wrong but we seem to be getting linked with different players every week.

£3mill is nothing in todays game, hell even Stoke and Hull can throw that amount of money about -- and we cant?

I dont buy it but there's 4 weeks left, plus till the end of August (I think) for players to sign the dotted line. Plenty of time. The papers need to fill colums half the time.

that has the potential to be another gem.

3 mil is a steal for a young dutch international.

He was the first player I saw in Euro 2008 who I thought could do the Carsley role. At £3 million where is the risk?

Agree with everything T.B. says (your really saving my fingers here mate) a great shout, i would have liked us to go for Christain Poulsan as well but signed for Juve yesterday.
