A good attacking full back doesn't necessarily make a good winger

They need the space a left-side midfielder or forward creates for them

You only really play a quick left-footed midfield on the left-wing in a 4-4-2 in which you want your left-back to stay put and rely on the wingers to get down and put the crosses in.

In summary...

...stop saying let's put him on the left-wing.
Thank you someone needed to say this.

Good points. Can he play in goal instead maybe?

Play Baines in midfield.
Play Holgate in midfield.

He didn't seem to need much space to run in to when he pulled it back for Kean to score against fleetwood.
He's fast, good with his feet and likes to take players on. He's also young. I'd like to see him play left in a front 3 or a midfield 4.
Either way, it's moot as he'd be behind Iwobi, Gordon and maybe Bernard for that position anyway.

In a 4-4-2 there's some merit to the idea.

But the Fleetwood game as you say, if we was playing on the left in our 4-3-3 he wouldn't have been on the touchline from that deep for the overlapping run.

See DCL's goal against Liverpool, all starts because James dropped into a cenral space to create an overlap for Digne.

And equally we shouldn't play Digne as a left-mid.

it's an internet football forum,
It's not lunacy to suggest that a 19yo attacking full back might be alright on the wing.

Not calling yas all n0bheads or anything, but loads have posted the idea. The lad is a 19 year old left-back and played 3 games worth of English football, I'd rather him just hone his craft as a LB rather than play positions we already have the likes of Iwobi, Gordon and Bernard in reserve for.

Nkounkou should be nowhere near the left wing. We have 3 other players capable of playing there and Ancelotti prefers inverted wingers so unless he was to play instead of James which would be ludicrous I can't see it happening. He was brought in as left back and he will get his chances in that position.

Think Holgate was decent in midfield. To be fair that was also comparing him to tweedle dee and tweedle walk around doing nothing.
He didn't pass. Not he didn't pass well but we smashed the ball so high and far over his head in the games he played midfield that he didn't pass at all. With how we are playing now we should honestly be looking at it like he never played there.

Sometimes fullbacks are Gareth Bale and they are actually world class wingers. A lot more often they're just fullbacks. I think that is Niels future.
