Seriously, my Saints have to be the most Everton-like team in the NFL. They build your hopes up, have a lead late, only to throw it away.

Given the current definition of a "catch" in the NFL, they could be right. If you don't get up off the ground with the ball in your hands having never gotten it close to the turf and then hand it back to the official with good eye contact and a respectful word, you may no longer have a legal catch.
