You mean the players he signed? And spent a fair few quid on them in doing so
I agree that he’s spent some money on them and he signed them but he’s kind of had to really. For example let’s take Solanke, £20m for someone who has only potential, poor business but who else could they have gotten? They don’t have the luxury of being able to buy some like Andre Gomes for £20m because a player of his ability would never even look at them.
I’m not really excusing him but when we paid £40m odd for Iwobi (I think he’s done well for us so far) despite him not doing anything noteworthy for Arsenal it’s easier to understand I suppose. It’s all about the level of player that the club can attract, any player in the PL is gonna cost at least £15m now so naturally most managers are going to be spending a lot of money and when you’re a poorer side like they are many of the signings aren’t going to light the world on fire.
I wouldn’t trust him to make the signings himself and that’s why Brands is there and I mentioned that. Also like I said he wouldn’t excite me at all and I think there’s probably better options out there but we might have to wait until the end of the season.
To be fair though I think it’s nonsense to say he’s not a good manager, he’s got a poor league 2 team who were on the road to relegation into the Premier League in a few years and is still a young manager. Feel like he’d definitively fit in more with a Spurs than us though as they have the quality to win games without playing well, we don’t.
