Depends on the context they're talking..."residual" data can be mined off a hard drive if you have the right eqipment, that's why there are format and delete utilities for PC's that do multiple writes (of zero's) to all sectors/blocks if you want to be ultra paranoid. If they're talking about it just not deleting the info, you can always go back in and check afterwards. Concern about the former is negligible, IMHO...
