Next Gen consoles - PS4/Xbox One

Aesthetics really shouldn't be judged too much but, to quote Arnie in Predator (when it comes to the XBO)..."you're one ugly motherf*cker". They must have had the badge man on the job...

I like the design. I can't be the only one. It looks clean and sharp, and understated.

A far cry from the horrendous look of the original XBox (remember that?)

But wh should we pay for something we don't need, we should have the option of a Kinect or not.

'Kin hell. No pleasing some people.

If you want to make it a cornerstone of your platform then better to build it in from day 1 rather than faff around with add-ons and SKUs.

I didn't "need" the headset or the USB slot on the 360, or the 2 extra controller ports on the original XB.
Nobody "needed" the BluRay on PS3.

It's a strategic decision that differentiates it from the competition.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that Microsoft just might be pulling off the smartest move in console gen history. They now seem to be reshaping their policies according to feedback & reaction in an effort to find a happy medium.

Nopes. They're doing the only thing they could do - appease their consumers, otherwise they'd fail. It's that simple. It's the Everton badge reversal all over again. Hit them in the pocket, they have to appease their ultimate paymasters - that being the people who actually buy the product!

They haven't been smart at all about this, it's been a train wreck. As I said before, only a lunatic would buy an XBox One based on the DRM/used games policy because you'd be buying an expensive paperweight once developers moved away from it because everyone was buying a PS4 instead. Removing the DRM/used game policy was quite literally the only thing left they could do if they wanted to exist as a gaming company two years from now.

So not smart at all - they're just placing a plaster over the massive amount of stupidity they had undertaken at E3.

Still sticking with the PS4. It's cheaper, and has been designed with developers in mind, not TV networks and publishers.

Plus their clear move towards indie support, when contrasted with MS' apparent contempt for indie studios, is another key factor for me. Indie game are fantastic, and some of my favourite games of this generation have been £7 quid sleeper hits.

Good read on the whole debacle here. It's in line with my opinion, admittedly, so not everyone will agree.

I can't see how anyone can disagree; at least, anyone with half a brain.

The consumer controls the end product. If the consumer want to buy consoles and games without DRM, then the supplier has to provide consoles and games without DRM. If the consumer wants to buy used games, the supplier has to provide the facility for used games.

In short, it's up to the supplier to adapt to the demands of the consumer, not the other way round.

Imagine going into a shop and asking for a chocolate bar, and the shopkeeper refuses to give you it and tells you you're buying an ice cream instead. You wouldn't go "Oh, OK, that's fine", you'd laugh, not buy the ice cream and go elsewhere.

For some reason, developers think the gaming industry is exempt to the consumer model that has existed since the dawn of time.

PS4 preorders outselling XB1 by 70% according to most recent news. May close down a bit now if XB1 has a firm launch date, but Sony are looking good here to at least be the early leader in the next gen war. They definitely messed up with PS3 a but look to be doing a better job with PS4.

i'm still going to wait.

after i get bored with gtav which will be my last game i buy on ps3 then i will look at next gen. hopfully a few months after
