Just wandered if someone could tell me more about Bob Latchford. What kind of a striker was he? Did he win anything with us? I just saw a video of him chatting about the blues and he said despite being a brummie his heart is with Everton. I've heard the name mentioned a lot like, but just wondered what kind of a player he was
Classic centre forward. Scored a lot of headers but had a cracking shot on him as well and a decent hold up player as well. Top bloke as well.

My old man still thinks he's the bee's knees, and said he was one of the fastest men over two yards: getting in the right place, at the right time.

Brilliant with his head and could score with his feet too. You wouldn't expect him to run around a lot.

Agree with this.
Latch was often slated for his lack of speed (which was true) but he had a speed of thought and anticipation that gave him the edge over many speedier players.
I have no doubt that this will be an unpopular opinion, but I believe that Dwight McNeil is similarly under-rated due to a "lack of speed"

After reading the thread on Armstrong and the high hopes for him after a decent loan at Derby it made me think of Mills who had a decent loan at Oxford before he signed for them in January. Struggles to make the bench there now.

He plays every game, mostly as sub so that's not true.
Plus he's 3 years older and nowhere near as talented.

….i always have this image of him with a huge thigh bandage on, throwing the ball rather than kicking it to Joe Royle on the half-way line. Tommy Wright took his goal kicks, he was a fine keeper;

Big Bob was the complete centre forward,
bought for a record fee from a Birmingham City side that also had a young Trevor Francis in their line up.

Dixie Dean rated him. His penalties would be blasted into the back of the net, only Bruce Rioch could give him a run for his money on the power of a shot or maybe Lorimer at Leeds.

When the service was excellent (Dave Thomas) and the space created ( Duncan McKenzie & Martin Dobson ) he thrived.

Scored 30 goals in one season, was a fashion icon with his 'perm' after bagging four away at QPR.

Always happy to sign autographs, and go to the big factories etc while hordes queued up for them.

Never won enough England caps for his talents and we were unlucky that he picked up a few injuries when the big derby matches came around.

We were very close to winning the league cup in his time, which took two replays to decide it.

He was always great to watch and those that followed him in the forward line after he left were very poor in comparison.
