I can answer that. They took so long because there was the absence of the funds available so the process couldnt continue. They didn't inform the fans as they will have been under NDA.
The evidence is very clear, when a takeover takes longer than acouple of days to complete, it isn't as it seems. Forget weeks longer, this tooks months longer. It's not the PL's fault these geordie idiots couldn't read between the lines.
