Saw the line up so didn't watch the game, although caught their second goal when I was channel hopping. Dodgy penalty and freak deflection? Were we unlucky?

Stats say we dominated possession and created as many chances as them.

It was a soft penalty but gomes was slow and clumsy

The second goal came from a counterattack whilst we were pushing for an equaliser. Mina got absolutely smashed to bits by Fraser for pace and he put it in a last ditch block which caused a slight deflection Over the keeper and into the path of Wilson who slotted it in from 2 yards out. Poor defending by Mina.

Truth is it could have been 4-1 if Olson had not made 2 great saves

Performance wise we were terrible and didn’t deserve anything. We only showed up and played in the last minutes once we were already losing as per.

Most of our goal attempts came from sigurdsson from about 40 yards out. Delph had a 50 yard shot which has still not yet landed.

The first half was truly abysmal football but wasn't too bad in the second especially towards the end, and hopefully Carlo will start with the same team that finished the second half next time. Wasn't great but at least they were creating chances, unlike the first-half, where our build-up play and endless back passing, reminded me of Craggy island's over 90's. Not a good time to face united though!
Yes, the penalty was another stitch-up but Newcastle probably deserved the win over the whole game as we really were poor.

Olsen was great. As much as I feel for Pickford, it wasn't just his saves for me, but his calmness under pressure.

I am starting to hate these very slow build ups from the back whenever we get a goal kick, passing across our own penalty area between the goalkeeper and the c/bs, it takes such a long time to even reach the half way line, please get the ball quicker up the field and stop Delph from his continually passing the ball backwards, I swear 80% of his passing goes backwards.

The one thing our midfield could have offered yesterday going forward was Doucoure bursting from deep. However, the role he played basically meant that was impossible, as most of the time he was playing right-back

Really weird
I've been a bit disappointed with how we've used Doucoure. Aside from an assist for James against Brighton, he's barely ever gets near the opposition box and tends to stay deeper than Allan. I thought his added goal threat was one of the reasons we went for him?

I agree with you about Doucoure I thought he would be able to link up the midfield with the forwards so for that reason I still think we need a good number 10.

Well the thing is when the 4-3-3 works we have James dropping into space, with Dom in the box and Richarlison stretching teams on the far side.

Doucoure should be pushing then to add that support which he was doing in the first few games.

Gbamin coming back and staying fit could - might not - give us a better option then as he can sit and Allan can play more of a box-to-box role, or vice versa. ]

But we did see against Southampton that we missed a player to hold onto the ball in that midfield three.

Don’t really think it’s been a decent start now, tbh. A team that’s currently 13th can leapfrog us tomorrow. We turned a tremendous first 4 games into a run-of-the-mill start that everyone has got off to.

We were well beaten by Southampton, without Richarlison and with an unfit James. Allan has been carrying a knock for a few weeks now as well.

With a full strength team we are a match for most, but without key players we struggle as the options from the bench just aren't good enough.

I expect once we get players back we will go on another good run.

Delph in particular yesterday seemed to have no confidence. Was passing it right back to players who had just given him the ball from a distance of a few yards away in some instances, showing an unwillingness to take responsibility for making mistakes. It was almost comical!
I really think players should get the hell away from social media as it's weird to see professionals playing hot potato in front of empty stadiums! I think a lot of them just hope they won't end up on the receiving end of a backlash for some goof up! Unfortunately, though they probably would!

I think something as simple as starting Gordon over Gomes would have made a massive difference yesterday. It's all hindsight like but we had absolutely no runners past DCL so everything was played in front of the Newcastle back four making it much easier. Think Gordon would at least been a willing runner or someone to fire a ball in to the channel for.

Our line up for Sunday was ridiculous.

No pace or width, yet we're playing with a guy up front knocking in goals from crosses left right and centre.

Ancelotti lost his way since the break.
