You cant defend the Gomes challenge. Yes it might not be a deserved pen, but you cant ignore the precedence. Gomes has gotten off countless times for high boot idiotic challenges. He feels comfortable consistently not thinking such challenges can be costly and that simply isn't the case. If it wasn't today it would have been another match. Utter negligence.

I get what you're saying, but it still felt like the onus was on Newcastle to try and win, and when the 2 teams play at Goodison the onus will be on Everton.

100% agree with that point there.

Still, if our first xi were available today, we would walk all over Newcastle today.
With a capacity Newcastle crowd, maybe not as easy.

Disappointing again as again did nothing going forward until we went behind :-( 2 huge tests and we failed miserably ;-( Felt like back to the Martinez/Silva back passing 90% of game rather than try to take a risk!

Only positives were:

I dont know why people are expecting the same players from last season, who failed to perform to now step up when called upon and perform. It doesn't work like that.

Bernard was good when he came on. Suspect his injury and mental weakness has done for Gomes. Siggy is a scapegopat for some, but had more shots than anyone and put some good balls into the box,but we had no runners. DCL, excellent poachers goal, but Newcastle forced him out of the box a lot.. We were actually the better team but the Barcodes defended well, credit to Bruce for that.Delph saw a lot of the ball but kept passing backwards. At one time I counted seven passes back in succession from him. Allan and Dacoure were OK, but we had no one running into space. .The new left back has a lot to learn defensively. Goalkeeper didn't really have much to do, but a couple og good saves, and no problem with his distribution. Move on. Still in a good position, and we will get better, and learn to play when our to players are missing.

Yeah until one off our players gets the leg snapped. But oh wait it has happened 4 times in the last 5 years. The media are sick and we have this label on us now.

I will be more concerned if we are still very poor when we have the four first teamers back in the team that were missing today.

If we are still showing nothing on the ball with Digne, Richy, James and Coleman. Then we really do need to ask questions.

Given who was out a point today should have been a minimum. We will have more injuries and suspensions so this sort of performance will be repeated which if we really aspire to EL at least doesn't bode well.

As has been the case for a long time, there aren't enough players who recognize what needs to change and then do something about it...after dycking around with the ball fort the first 20 mins, multiple bodies all over the pitch should have been losing their marbles and telling others to get their minds right. I didn't see it.
