Howard 8 - A couple of top saves 2nd half

Jagielka 8 - Class act
Distian 7 - Should have done better for the goal but carried Heitinga throughout
Heitinga 5 - Liability
Baines 9 - Best left back in the world

Pienaar 7 - Jaded but still too good for newcastle midfield
Osman 7 - Kept us ticking on
Neville 6 - Good game
Naismith 4 - Weak
Fellaini 7 - Leadership

Jelavic 7 - Fantastic for 2nd goal

Anichebe 8 - Class striker

Just before the game I had a feeling about Cisse scoring, put 50p on scorecast Cisse 2-1 Everton - 110/1 easy £55!

What with the latest fashion of filming players faces close up for ages every time something happens and the hoofball Newcastle played for 90 minutes, I estimate I only saw about 35% of the actual football.

Newcastle v Everton - Match Ratings!

Howard - 6 - Howard either sticks rigidly to his line no matter what, or comes out and does a starjump. Both methods are poor. Luckily, it didn't cost us tonight, no responsibility for the goal really.

Jagielka - 7 - Maligned for playing at right back, despite the fact he's doing it well. In the absence of Coleman, he's done a good job and his forward runs confuse the opposition who don't expect it.

Heitinga - 2 - I think he won a header once, so he gets a point for that. And he was in the way of a shot on goal once too, so there's another. Other than that, it was the worst performance from a centre-half I can remember at Everton - including Kroldrup and the half-arsed version of Lescott. Truly garbage.

Distin - 8 - Fantastic from Sylvain, who used all his pace and awareness to full advantage against a pacy back line. No sign of making a calamitous error tonight.

BAINES - 9 - Sublime. First time crosses into dangerous positions, fantastic running, wonderful defending (lost Cisse for the goal but he expected Heitinga to win that header, as most reasonable people would) - and that free kick was the best since a certain strike in the 80s followed by a two fingered salute. Imperious display.

Pienaar - 7 - Decent, won key free kicks, kept busy, improving as his hair grows longer.

Neville - 6 - People accuse me of picking on Neville, but he is dire. His range of passing is atrocious, but fortunately he actually improved after taking a smash to the head and helped see the game out late on.

Osman - 6 - Weirdly anonymous. He didn't do anything wrong, but he wasn't involved at all in the game. A neutral performance.

Naismith - 2 - Pfft...

Fellaini - 7 - Not at his brilliant best, but his involvement for the second goal was brilliant and he showed his value late on by intercepting and providing a presence to hit all night.

Jelavic - 8 - Worked very hard all night, great assist, he's getting better - was decent against Chelsea and built on it tonight. The goals will come.

SUBS

Anichebe - 9 - The perfect cameo performance from the bench. Well taken goal, wonderful hold up play to secure the win. Literally faultless.

Oviedo - N/A - Not on long enough.

they did shake but only just. As for Howard, great shot stopper but gives me a heart attack every time the ball is crossed into the box
Howard was at his best...Baines wow! what can you say?...Felly even when he's not at his best is a massive presence for us..Chebes had his best game in a blue shirt..Moysie tactically beat up Pardew..
Did anyone notice if they shook hands?
