Yes, VDM is unfit, but id prefer to play him over Castillo, and this is Newcastle we are talking about. [Poor language removed] defence, so we should looked to take advantage of it. Playing VDM also means Gosling goes on his favoured right side.
Obviously, if Fellaini or Pienaar are back (doubtful) they would replace VDM. Same with Saha and Anichebe.

Agreed mate, shouldn't mess with the midfield when we have both yobo and Jacobsen (if he's fit).
