Just finishing 24 hours in Boston, although much smaller than New York it has the most amazing breakfast diners, sea food and particularly Italian (in the North End).
In fact in a hour just off for some of this before flight home :
If you want to take in a show, they have special booths offering tickets at a discount. The one at times square is always chocca but the one at the docks is a breeze to get served. I'll find the name of it and let you know. Great place, been winter and summer and looks like I'm going next summer for my sister in-laws wedding. Will have to do a thread myself as I want to do another few cities to visit in the US, New Orleans is tempting me.
I preferred the Rockafella roof to Empire State building. I'd recommend the first day you get there buy a bus pass tour and do that straight away.

South seaport is the one to goto, times square one is mayhem. Loads of bars and the restaurant on the pier. Might not be the best in winter to sit outside and watch the world go by though.

New Orleans is decent for a visit, but crap to live there. Don't venture too far from the French Quarter...

Seattle is another one I'd like to visit .
Chicago is great. The weather can be brutal though. Downtown and northward up to Wrigley Field is about all I've seen, but had a great time there.
New Orleans, would a week be two long for it? Another city close by be worth a visit?
If you make it out, I can definitely point you in the right direction for some ace stuff to do in both Seattle and the Bay Area.
