New York

Just came back from there earlier this week.

9/11 was weird, made me feel sick so didn't stay long at all.
Walked back from Brooklyn over the bridge, it was absolutely freeeeeeeezing at 10pm
It snowed so we saw Central Park in the snow it was beautiful.

Make sure you take more money than you think you'll need, we didn't get any change from £3k for a week between two of us.

We went to the ice hockey at Madison Sq Garden which was absolutely boss. And there's a belter Jazz club called Birdland on W44th I think that was brilliant.
Did you have your attractions booked prior to your visit?

We have. Including OWO.

Also you're massively over estimating how much you will be able to do, trust me if you fit all that in you will be absolutely cream crackered.
A lot will be for an hour at a time. Plus we're hoping queues won't be as big as when you went.

Only had the Hockey tickets booked, didn't do any Empire State or any of that stuff, 3 hour queues in -10 wasn't appealing to me!
Everything in my list is paid for. We're watching the knicks on Thursday at MSG. The money we're taking is for food only, outside of a trip to the Everton bar I can't see us drinking. I'm hoping $1300 will be enough. That's $330 a day. What do you think?

Should be. There are actually a lot of cheap eats in NYC. Pizza, food stands, and Chinatown.

Are you there for 4 days?

Food isn't cheap like, I think the exchange rate is killing us brits over there at the moment. You'll be fine on that money if you're not bevvying, Drinks cost a bomb ($18-20 for a decent bourbon and coke, about $8 for a pint of something like Brooklyn) and admittedly we had some heavy, heavy boozing nights but I was shocked how much we spent. The tips will break your heart, and they charge your card in a weird way where it charges you twice then refunds one later so be wary of that, use a credit rather than debit card.

I don't know where you're staying but when we checked in I put $50 in my passport before I handed it to the reception fella and got a massive room upgrade so might be worth a look.

I'll try that, it's my wife's birthday the day we check in. Staying in Times Square. Not too much drinking, if at all. The sightseeing is the key to our trip.

We stayed at times sq too, also email the hotel before you go and tell them it's your wife's birthday and they'll sort a little bottle of something and chocs/flowers for when you get back to the room that day.
Defo recommend getting a metro card, sometimes you just can't be arsed walking, especially with how busy you will be.

Hi jal, I was in New York myself in September, looked in that Birdland jazz club but changed my mind and walked away, been kicking myself ever since, was it dead good, if I ever go again, that's the first place I'll go.

Most things covered as expected, but if you want to do something a little different try the Tenemant Society on the Lower East side. Apartments kitted out over 3 eras from when the immigrants arrived and how they evolved over the years .great hour or so to spend and a good insight into conditions people lived in.

Also if flying into JFK get the shuttle train to Jamaca street then the Long Island Railrod to Penn Street, save you about $40 in cab fare.

Alternately you can take the E Train instead of the LIRR

Or if you're hading into Brooklyn or Manhattan the J/Z from Jamaica or the A train from Howard Beach
