Not sure but I think arched lettering is used for League and straight for Cup matches.

The club can do it however they want (arced or straight) for league matches but they have to use the league's letters and numbers.

For cup/Europe matches the club can use whatever letters and numbers they want. Maybe the typeset we're using in those matches looks better with flat lettering.

I was referring to the below, EPL seem to be fine with both, just odd DELE is arced but HAZARD is straight.

Presumes you arced when names where longer.

I think it has to be consistent across the whole club... and if you use flat letters I think the actual letters are bigger.
