New Healthy Start

I thought this thread would be locked......bit surprised actually.

For anyone interested. I haven't been doing much over the past couple of months, probably gained a few pounds as my trousers are tighter around the waist. Been eating salads for lunch most days but generally not watching what i eat too much.

However starting from next week i am going jogging with a mate in works son. bit of an awkward one as in my health kick i was well up for it, now can't be arsed but he is running for a great cause for charity so by going i will be supporting him so yeah, can't back out now.

So good news for everyone remotely arsed, this thread will be back in some sort.

Well in you mentalist.

I knew you couldn't refrain from posting mundane crap for long.

I for one look forward to your daily updates x

Getting ready to go running in a bit.

I really don't want to but have no choice now. I just hope he doesn't think I can run very far...

If you haven't run for ages, aim for no more than a slow jog, max one mile.

Your leg muscles need to get use to it again and that'll take 2 wks min.

Ideally when you start you should run at a pace where you can comfortably talk to someone - in other words, not out of breath.

I know it's hard for you, but don't go MAD to start with ;)

Don't think I'll have the stamina to go far to be honest haha

Need to buy some running shoes as well when I get paid. Don't think running in Adidas is a good idea but it's either that or boots lol

Good podcast for you to listen to when you're exercising is the NHS couch to 5k rather than going off like Mo Farah running from Homeland security they'll keep you in check.

Walking won't shift weight unless you're really going at a pace.

Get a kettlebell & dvd and do that 2-3 times a week. Run. Don't eat after 6pm. Get a weight watchers / slimming world recipe book. Oh, and run.

I would consider to just stop eating after 10pm for the thread poster rather than 6pm

Why do you have no choice? Is someone holding you at gunpoint?

No. Months ago it was mentioned, mate in works son wanted to do it and now he is running for charity so in a way I'm supporting him to do it. So if I don't go it will make it harder for him to keep motivated.

And if I get better I'll start raising money for charity and join him in the race.

We seem to be doing the couch to 5 k thing. He had an app we were following that was quite good, run then walk type of exercise.

That's the one Ash.

I started using it but found it a bit slow, like it was for proper slobs not just lazy ale heads like me but it was a useful start until you get a base fitness.

If it works then by the end of it I'll be running a kilometre at minimum I would imagine. Would be a massive improvement on what I can do now even if the fella I'm running with is running the 5k by then haha

I've never been a great long runner even when I did go running round Sefton park, so it seems perfect for me so far, the running was fine, could have carried on tonight if the app hadn't finished, so I'm hoping if I buy a half decent pair of running shoes then I should find myself getting fitter bit by bit.

Not expecting miracles, nor to be super fit any time soon. But it's getting me off my fat arse again which should hopefully put me towards losing the other 2 stone by the summer.
