New Everton Stadium Discussion

Not sure it's a fair comparison. There's only 450k people in Liverpool in total and about 1.4M in Merseyside in total including the Wirral. London alone (never mind the commuter towns) is over 8M.
The thing about London is that is huge and so densely populated. Several London boroughs added together have a higher population than Liverpool and population density means that they don't have that far to travel to get to Spurs.
We'd be expecting 5% of the population of Merseyside to turn up to Bramley Moore. Feels a big ask.
(Population of Liverpool has dropped over the decades too, hence why it was possibly easier to get big crowds in the past)

Now that's not a fair comparison.

Not sure what the population of Liverpool has to do with our new stadium. Though I read only a day or two ago that the population is up to 550,000 and increasing. However it's a totally narrow-minded view to think of our support just to come from the city region. Even so new grounds have new stadium 'bounce'.

Comparison to the past is also a bit misguided. My dad was in the ground when it was a record crowd 78,000 in 1948, crowds were bigger post war.

From Everton's perspective, the new ground simply has to rival and match our 'competitors'. Top 6 whatever. Tottenham have set the bench mark Everton must not only match it but better it.

How could it the site had not then been established and BK et al still had a big chunk of the shares.

Well, two schools of thought.

1. Moshiri watched Everton on telly, thought, I would love to own them, persuaded his mate to pay £300m for his Arsenal shares, then realised it might be a good idea to build a ground on the docks. And make a killing on the resulting development/increase in the value of Everton.

2. Or the exact reverse.

lollollollollollollol

Hes worth twice as much as Moshiri, but only a 5th as much as Usmanov.

But, despite him being worth 5bn, he still took a loan out to pay for their stadium. With him being 82 I would be surprised if he lives long enough for them to pay it off.
There's not many people who will have nigh on £1b lying around to spend on a stadium and even if they did, it would not be sensible to do so.

They (the club) have basically got a large mortgage to pay for the stadium, which will be covered over a large period of time, while Tavistock have a new asset.

Try watching Two Tribes (Bt)
Tells you all you need to know about Liverpool and its population.
In the 80's when Thatcher decimated the city the population dropped from 800k to 400k .
Contrary to your post Liverpool have a rising population of 552k and thats not including the surrounding boroughs of Sefton Knowsley etc that include Bootle Huyton & Kirkby etc.
Not sure what point you are trying to make here tbh as Liverpool and the surrounding areas are in a full on revival and no signs of it slowing down with the proposed future developments.

We would fill Man Citys stadium 100%

Tottenham are in a city of 8M people. In the richest part of the country.
If you divide it into quarters that's still 2M (and because of history etc. their catchment area and access to people will be more).

Merseyside has 1.3M people

Do we all think that something like 5% of the adult population will turn up week after week for Everton?
Do we have similar or better demography to Spurs?

If you do, OK.
If you don't, then building a 60k+ stadium probably not a great idea.

I've just not seen anything that suggests we have. Reference to 70 years ago isn't that convincing and reference to other clubs probably isn't helpful when they're in capital cities.
(Let's put it this way; why don't we build an 80k stadium? Because it wouldn't be full. Why wouldn't it be full?)

Personally I want a full bear pit every week, not something 1/3 empty.

Having seen Tottenham’s new stadium images from the opening game, absolutely stunning yes, but not sure I would like to see three levels of bright LED advertising boards lit up and changing all through match. I hope Meiss tones it down a bit and we just stick to an iconic Leitch style criss cross between levels.

Leitch shouldn't be anywhere near this new ground imo. Sadly I think it will be our fans harp on too much for the past.

Maybe some Leitch reworking on the concourses... but inside - and much as we might dislike the sheer commercialism of it - we need to maximise the advertising and corporate sponsorship side of the business of operating a top football club to the nth degree.

Agree mate, Goodison for me is unique and should be kept that way. I wouldn't like BMD becoming a large replica of the old lady it needs to be modern yet unique in its own way.

Surely though if we had some form of the Leitch work on show it would still make it unique as no other modern stadium has it?

I love it me, love it at Goodison and more than happy to see it anywhere on the new stadium. Nothing wrong with taking some great traditional things that Goodison has fortunately given us and being proud of them and taking the best bits for our new home.
