New Contracts: Barry, Baines and Holgate

I personally feel that its important to have good pros around the club and they don't get much better than Barry.

The young lads will learn a lot from him, especially how to conduct yourself away from the field if you want a long career and that can be vital, worth it even if he becomes a bit part player now which he should.
Yes a few experienced players helps our youngest defender the other night was 28 yrs old!
The rest including the keeper all over 30 capt sent off as his legs have gone all been great players but Holgate why is he not used along side Williams to gain experience is a mystery IMO!
Barry should have been off loaded to villa in January IMO never missed him the other night and we won!

Don't think Barry will continue to start and you will see him being phased out. Thought what koeman said made a lot of sense that there is place in the squad for the older players as role models for the younger players. Frankly more of our players need Barry's type of attitude. No one else in our team would have gone toe to toe with Costa last year other than him and not taken a backward step. I also imagine that he sets a high bar in training. There is definitely a role for Barry coming off the bench to help protect leads and to start games like against city away.
Would be nice to get Barkley new contract sorted and we need Lukaku to sign another deal soon or sell to protect their transfer values.
I thought Koemans comments regarding Holgate were telling as well as he mentioned that Holgate is one of a group of very good younger players we have. Maybe he isn't as anti-youth as the majority seem think and he just doesn't feel that the likes of Davies are ready just yet based on what he sees everyday in training?

Don't think anyone should be wanting to cast Barry out like a chicken carcus into food waste bin, he is a solid professional who has years of wisdom to pass on and can be useful on the pitch, however, his lack of pace is so evident at times and the graduated phase is inevitable.

Good news although apects of it are somewhat suprising.

As others have said a 4.5 year deal for Holgate is great.

I am not suprised that we gave Baines an extended contract but 2.5 years - wow.I was hoping that in the summer we would be looking for someone to replace Baines - perhaps a younger player on a phased basis. Baines would be excellent long term cover but the deal suggests that Koeman sees him as our first choice for the forseeable future.

I think a one year deal for Barry is justified and I think that increasingly we will see him used from the bench.

decent all round, holgate a no brainer, baines if we can keep fit a no brainer and barry, although i wouldnt have been disappointed to see him go can understand why we give him a new deal, probably look into coaching aswell

Happy with all these contract extensions and periods too :-)

1 year for Barry, hopefully more on time played than set wages and involved in coaching with long term to get him involved with younger player training would be great :-) same with baines :-)

Holgates great to have sorted for 4 years and hopefully the start of a few more deals for younger lads in squad to show their appreciated
