New buzz around the blues

Said in the match thread, that the major difference for me was not feeling like we'd concede once we went ahead (apart from when WBA got that free kick in the 94th minute).

Early days, obviously, but from the first two games, there's so much more urgency, closing players down, there's a nice mix of patient build up play and going direct, the defenders look so much more confident (Holgate has been a revelation) and we now appear to have a manager who is adaptable and flexible in his tactics, as opposed to unwavering rigidity, regardless of the opposition.

As has been said elsewhere, there is the fear that we could be enjoying a new manager first season bounce, like we did with Martinez.

However, the difference here is that Koeman has done consistently well as a manager and doesn't have a record of having teams seemingly unable to defend.

I'm optimistic, genuinely optimistic, for the first time in ages. I think with Moshiri coming in, getting shut of Martinez, getting a proven winner in Koeman in along with his back room team, together with Walsh, we might just be hitting the perfect storm.

But, as I've said, it's only two games and we will need to see how Koeman and the players do when/should we have a bad result or poor run of form.

But, for now, my glass is beyond half full.

I think that substitute in the first half on Saturday announced Koeman was here and how it will be. It's a 180 degree from Martinez.

Let's not forget the Spaniard had a great new manager bounce in his first season too.

Fans are naturally excited at a new manager and look for signs of it being the perfect suitor but it's prudent to just roll with this season as there'll be a lot of change. Obviously if there's money invested many will be expecting better than 11th though.

I know you like your archive searches mate. Take a shufty in there when you get the chance: https://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/roberto-martinez-discussion.57212/page-41

It's absolutely hilarious reading stuff now (both about Martinez and the 'difference' between Martinez and Koeman). I went through a few pages myself last night and was pissing meself in light of what's happened.

Different pedigree altogether though mate. Koeman is a bonafide football legend with a pedgree of being in winning teams and being a winning manager. Martinez was the great pretender and was thoroughly found out.

When Chris Sutton said we now had a "proper" manager he wasn't wrong.

It is just me or is the optimism growing. At west brom on Saturday even when they scored I think everyone still felt we would win .. Very little moaning or slating players which was great .. Manager did the substitution that was needed and the job was done ... The belief is coming back ! Really hope we get some more quality players in before the window closes and we can push on !

Everton 0 Stoke 3

When we can defend a lead properly over the next ten games, I will join in! Still too scarred to get too excited, and that typical Everton feeling when we cock up is still bubbling. Game on Sat is crucial, these are exactly the games we need 3 points from as Stoke are the type of team who have taken points off us too easily at Goodison. However bouyed by Koeman's ability to keep clean sheets at Southampton and if we can keep a good run going over the next 5-6 weeks it also affects the opposition psychology. Thinking Christ we have Everton next whereas the last two seasons even if 2-0 down the oppo would think it's only Everton they always concede!
