Admittingly I have not seen the game yesterday - but followed it via my mobile. At first I was stunned to see Moyes actually making two attacking substitutions at half-time and even more so that Neville was one of them. (on a side-note; who took the captain's armband for the second half?)

According to most in the Chelski - EFC thread Neville had a shocker of a game, and was sort just waiting to get a red card. That might have made the decision for Moyes, since he obviously did'nt want to end the game with 10 men.

I was just thinking where this leaves Moyes and Neville for the next game. At that time more will have come back from injury and hopefully none will have sustained new ones, so where does our club captain fit in?

Rumours of Hoyte maybe joining could be pure mediaspin, but if true it reveals that Moyes has little faith in Neville as RB. Jags will be center half when Yobo goes to the African Nations Cup, partnering Lescott. Leaving only Hibbert and Neville to take that place, unless someone is brought in.

Has Moyes finally figured out that Neville is not good enough for our starting line-up or will he be back for the next match.

I like Neville, but at times he seems a bit imature almost, in that his passing can be very random and he has a tendency to rush awkwardly and clumsily into challenges. For a defender/deffensive midfielder he gives away to many fouls and balls. However i like his character, leadership, versatility and the way he plays when he is playing well.

As for the African nations we hopefully can have lescott and Stubbs in CD when yobo leaves, have baines in LB and Jags in RB, as far as i am concerned neville and hibbert although having some good games, need to improve to make it in the first team.

I do not think Neville will be really falling out of favour with the manager just yet. Not the greatest player we know but as well to keep him around as an option unitl some new faces turn up.

I think we could start a thread on a few Everton players like this but when you look at the December fixture list, it's important that we have every player available to Moyes for selection, regardless of current form.

Could it not have been Neville was doing a job?

We got the draw. I reckon Moysey put Neville in with the intructions to crack some skulls, and when he did his job he chucked in some attackers.

I always think a captain should lead through his performance first an foremost, and Neville's hardly put in a good one all season.

Good squad player, top pro. but shouldn't b captain of our club.

i personally don't like playing nev further forward, i'm sorry but he can't shoot worth [Poor language removed], i saw he had a couple efforts late last season that made me want to cry.

we do alright under his captaincy, i think the other players respect him and that's all that matters really. he seems to play intelligently when he keeps his aggression in check (red card against liverpool was the right move and i admire his sacrifice for the team) , and while his performances haven't been dazzling, i rarely catch him out of position which is really one of the most important characteristics of a defender. the boys playing have a better idea who should be captain than i ever could, i don't see what goes on with them off the field or how well they all respond to his leadership, so i gotta trust moyes's judgement.

once the nations cup starts i look forward to seeing him drop back, where i think he's much more effective than he's been at his current midfield role.

We need leaders all over the pitch and I think we're getting that way. Yobo is the captain of Nigeria (although I'm not sure how :D ), Cahill is a good leader I think.

I believe we have potential leaders in many positions. Howard, Yobo, Lescott, Cahill and Vaughan strike me as having enough skill, ability and never-surrender attitude. Just look at Howard for Chelsea's goal! Yobo is our silent leader, speaking via his performance and Lescott will be Ratcliffe II within a few years. Cahill has more spirit and never-say-die attitude than any other in the squad, perhaps only STubbs and Vaughan show the same desire. Vaughan is too young though but I would not be surprised to see him as captain one day - only his position as a striker will be against it.

If we bring in a box-to-box leader ie. Appiah we would have a superb spine of winners going through our team. Supplement it with the finesse and skill of Baines, Pienaar, Osman and of course Arteta and the team is looking good.
