Neville!! Stay or go????

I had my first taste of bleach on the day that I heard we signed Phil Neville.

I thought he was two bob and we should have been looking at better quality players, even then. A very limited footballer.

Thing is, he surpassed all my expectations. Not as a footballer, but his attitude and professionalism.

There are many threads on here singing the praises of Phil Neville as many of us do not have a memory that extends beyond last August!
He joined us a time when we needed a player of his type.
If the argument is that his usefulness has expired and he no longer has a role in the 'first 11', that is then down to individual opinions and subjective. Nothing wrong with that, it stimulates good old fashioned debate.

All the issues we have had/having this season, I personally would not blame Phil at all.

Just on another personal view, I always say that I do not want players to tell me in the press how much this team means to them. I want them to show me on the pitch.

So, the topic question: Should Phil stay or go?
Like MG said, not too concerned either way, but he would go with my gratitude for what he has done to help the club. I wouldn't mind if he became a coach here.
I would rather he remained a squad player than move away as invariably, we will not replace him and be a man lighter.

Why has he been less vocal this year? I just don't know. Maybe there are things going on behind the scenes that destroy the spirit!
He might want to share our bleach!

Agreed on all counts.

From the Daily Fail:

Phil Neville is on the verge of a signing a contract that will keep him at Everton for the rest of his career.

The former England international has 12 months left on his current terms but talks are at an advanced stage on a new two-year deal.

Tottenham wanted to sign Neville, 34, in the January transfer window and his head was turned by the lure of Champions League football.

I remember the reaction when he signed his last deal.

I have no problem with him staying, as long as he's fased out of the first team sooner rather than later.

That goal he scored last season was an absolute cracker though.

Had me jumping up and down, i tells thee.

class is permanent - as with Arteta and Jagielka. nev just doesnt cut it for me, just my opinion.

If class is permanent then why did Arteta and Jags stink from August to December?

We seem to play better when he's in. Why wouldn't you want him. He plays 2 positions. If Johnny H goes who's going to play DM when (not if) Fellani and Arteta get injured (Neville is also a better DM than Johnny H)? At RB, granted he has his deficiences however he's very solid defensively there and his play frees up Coleman to create.

He should be punted just on the basis of his comments alone. he just doesn't get it. A club captain who sees Everton success as top 6.

Phoney.

I wasn't convinced at 1st but Neville won me over, we're a better team when he plays. I used to spend games looking for his mistakes and excusing the mistakes of others but I remember looking at his statistics on a newspaper website, you could compare players and look at work-rate, passing etc. OK, stats don't prove everything but it made me take notice because no matter what game and who I compared him to, he seemed to come out on top (particularly if he played in midfield). I started to look at games a bit differently, ok he's not got the best skill-set but he contributes greatly, covers a lot of ground, supports his team-mates, positions himself well. Every team needs a player like this, I hope he stays, & I'd love to see him pick up a trophy here.
