Netherlands piloting women to play men's football

Absolutely no problem with this.

If they're good enough, why not? This isn't about averages. In an ideal world I'd want to see the best players play together regardless of age, race or sex.

Any suggestion of quotas can do one though.

Well that would have to be the case.

Do you think Man City would sign a few female players and risk losing out on the title?

Or any of the top 6 risking out on CL qualification?

Or midtable clubs fighting to avoid relegation?

Or clubs fighting for promotion?

There literally wouldn't be any other way than quotas which is why it makes it even more of a daft idea.

Spare all that hyperbole. The answer to all those questions is simply "yes, if the players were good enough".
There's no quota for age or race, don't see why sex would need one.

You are the only person extending this to elite leagues, proposing quotas and forcing teams to play female players. You have created an entire scenario in your mind.

Unless you are planning to pump steriods into these female players then it doesnt matter how good they are at football - they'll simply be unable to keep up with the physicality or pace/intensity of the mens game at professional level which is what people are failing to understand.

Watch the womens world cup and then the mens and compare the pace/intensity and its why it wouldn't work or be fair - which is why I stated that it makes a mockery of "competitive" sport to mix the two.

Im not debating there are good female football players - but the gulf in the mens and womens game is huge and biology plays a big part in that (as it does in most physical sports be it boxing to rugby).

Try it for yourself mate, anybody able to cycle 4000km in 10 days completely unsupported is a top level athlete. The fact that it isn't a commercial event is irrelevant.
Undoubtedly, but surely the people that could do it at an even higher level are cycling in environments which are more commercially viable? There’s probably more cash value in being a relatively unfancied road racer to being the face of ultra-riding.

I'm not reading all this because that likely wouldn't go well for any of us.

That said now that I have ventured in, I can't leave without throwing in my opinion.

Obviously most women would not fair well in the upper echelons of football (it's genetics), but to assume outright that no woman ever could manage in any of the teams in top 4-5 leagues in the world is ridiculous. I don't think folks are suggesting they'd dominate a game or be an automatic starter for CL level teams, but put in a shift/bench player for a bottom half of the table team... not so far-fetched.

To deny anyone even the possibility of a chance based on the assumption that they can't do it is prejudicial.

No standards should be lowered, no quotas imposed, but it is most athlete's goal/desire to push and test themselves to the absolute limits and the highest levels. If a person has the talent, skills and drive, they shouldn't be denied a chance.

Not all of them. Again, this isn't a discussion about averages and whether the biological average is the same. If a female player has the talent and builds muscle in gym like any other player, I don't see a single good reason why they shouldn't be able to play together.

There would just be 'teams', not women playing for men's teams or men playing for women's teams.

This would be fair, but wouldn't it eventually involve getting rid of the women's game?

A few good women may be able to compete, but I don't think it would leave much room for a crap female footballer that would otherwise had a career in the women's game.

It would end up ruining the women's game. Progressive nonsense that ends up being regressive.

Like I said mate its pure fantasy to hope for it at professional level - it'll never happen for a multitude of reasons and even if it did so long as cash is king 90% of clubs in the top divisions would sign a male footballer due to the physical advantages therefore you would need a quota in place which would make football even more farcical than it currently is.

I know in the modern world we like to think we as humans are above biology and mother nature but we really are not and the current pandemic is a not so gentle reminder of that.

Its also harsh (even if true) to say to a proud female athlete that she could only cope at a certain level of the mens game - likewise it would equally be sexist to deny male footballers thw opportunity to play in the women leagues which women would no doubt complain that they would have a biological advantage (as is the debate on transgender women being allowed to compete against biologically born women).
