I don't think there was any lack of effort tonight from the team as a whole; the right tempo we need doesn't just come from effort. It also requires guile, speed of thought, composure on the ball and a confidence in your team mate to make the right ball. I kept noticing in the second half that Hibbo was making some great runs infield and forward but of course his team mates thought 'Hibbo are you kidding me, let's go sideways instead'.

Not at all. Everytime a big game came up in 2014, we fell apart (Spurs, for example). That run you speak of was after we'd blew it in February.

The system we play currently is capable of great things when we're confident, and I'll always applaud Martinez for wanting to play the right way, but there simply has to be a Plan B when things aren't working, where you just grind out results and put the graft in ahead of philsophy. I'm not seeing that right now, and more alarmingly I'm seeing no prospect that Martinez is capable of this right now.

Oh come on, Tubes. You're using the classic grandoldteam defenition of big game to mean one we lose.

We played arsenal at home knowing that if they won we couldn't catch them but if we did, we'd overhaul them and we were superb.

We couldn't keep it up sadly, we were knackered and fell apart just afterwards, but if spurs was a big game that bloody was too.

Indeed - that's why I said we alternate between good and grim. Difference between Arsenal and Spurs by the way is that we were written off before Arsenal, and then expectancy was with us going into Spurs, so different mindsets.

Every mid-table-ish side goes through indifferent runs to be fair, but the difference is that we actually saw something very special from Martinez at first between August and December, and that'd died away since as his philosophy has taken hold. So he should already know a Plan B that works, but he's refusing to use it - why not go back to the counter attack, quick paced system from 2013?

It's especially weird that's because that's how we played vs wolfsburg which was out best performance of the season.

It's rather pissed of fans really. And they are entitled after spurs, hull and today.

The onle positive is the Europa League performance which deserves a bow

One point that should be made to oppose a point that has been frequently made by some posters including @Brennan is that when some talk of poorer or as poor starts made by previous managers Especially Moyes and are acting as though that was totally accepted at the time, it wouldn't have been, I remember going to Aston Villa away and barely putting up a fight in a 2-0 loss under Moyes.

The fans are being negative because they are mostly watching boring ,negative football with no leadership on the
pitch or off it .Most of us know that when the team go behind there is no one to rally them or bully them into having a
go and so the crowd sit back with nothing to get them going. It has been noticed and said many times the manager
is too nice and so are all of the players ,none of them shout and scream at players who just let the game pass them by.

All of the players just accept every decision given against them and none of them give the referee a hard times .Today's
referee was a disgrace but he will get away with it and so will the next poor referee and the one after that.

The club , the manager and the players are too nice , we need players who will not accept bad decisions and let these
refs know about it.
