Ok, I have been watching football for a long time, used to play a lot when I was younger, and personally reckon I could have made it if I was pushed harder. But that's another story.
I like to think I know what makes a successful premiership striker. For example, the young lad at Spurs - Campbell, he has it already. Quality, desire, pace, ability all over. Anichebe doesn't have it. Regardless of whether or not he plays more games, if you don't have the ability you don't have it.
Ok he can be a striker like the lad at Fulham (not AJ), or Carlton Cole, Marlon Harewood. Average strikers, but nothing more. Or they can be like Cadamarteri who was quick and skillful, and with a bit of care could have been a legend. I really struggle to see what sets Anichebe out against the rest. He is a squad player at best. Someone who can come on when the defence is tired and he can bustle through, but against class defences he is going to do nothing.
Yakubu is a born finisher, Saha has an intelligent football brain. They don't need loads of games to show what they can do. They were doing it when they were in the teens, and you knew then that they are talent. Anichebe sadly doesn't possess that potential.
I wanted him to be good, when we lost Rooney I was desperate for something else. I was gutted when Danny said he had seen him play and he was average, then when he started to play in the seniors I kind of got the impression that he thought he was better than he was, and that he lacked many of the skills required.
However, he's all we have at the moment, so if he scores, good. But its not acceptable for a club like Everton to be in this position.
You know who it comes down to then?
Your mate.
