A but of trivia for you non-Yanks, why is 55 traditionally the highest number worn by a basketball player?
Something to do with College rules perhaps? Not allowed to wear over 50 or so and they never bother to really change?
A good basketball game is loud and refs need to communicate with the scoring table on the sideline and use their hands. College and other amateur basketball limits numbers to 0-5 so you can communicate any player with two hands. (00-55, 36 numbers total.) The NBA allows all numbers, 00 to 99, but many players keep the number they played with in HS or college.
