I agree that it does look like Oriel Chambers. An interesting building this as it was the first in the world to be built with a glass curtain wall. The exterior walls do not support the weight of the building and it was designed with the users of the building in mind rather than the aesthetic sensibilities of passers-by. The amount of light inside must have seemed nigh-on miraculous in its day. Needless to say, such innovation was pilloried at the time in this country. Visiting Americans, though, recognised the design as the breakthrough that it was and realised that buildings constructed in such a way could be built way taller than traditionally possible. Hence, the skyscraper was born. Here is the world's first. In miniature.

The building in your avatar IS Oriel Chambers in Water St. The purple sign even has a 0151 phone number on it. Here is a very similar photo, from a slightly different angle.

The top of the Eaves in the Avatar look rounded? - apart from that it deffo looks like the same building. Even the building next to it looks the same.
