He's a key player. I'll repeat. He is a key player for us

Martinez needs a serious wake up call
It's proper Moyes.

Constantly playing his 'favourites', even though they are abysmal.

See Osman, Hibbert, Neville... yearly new contracts, etc. Moving them around the team just to play then. Remember Neville left midfield?

Remember when he kept playing Cahill when he could barely move and hadn't scored a goal for 14 months?

I actually thought he did well in the 2nd half last night, from a defensive point of view. Didn't offer anything going forward but it was clearly a defensive team performance, almost resulting in a point! I think he should be benched against Leicester but I'm not sure Martinez will ever drop him when he's fit!

Everything breaks down with him and he leaves us badly exposed because he loses the ball when the team are trying to set up to attack. It's very often a square ball as well which kills us. He is nowhere near good enough for Everton, his work rate is exceptional however, but we need to be looking for better now. Also where is he meant to be playing? If he plays behind Lukaku he just gets in his way and offers nothing creative, if he plays wide he just cuts inside all the time and takes away any shape we may have had. I gather this was the plan last night and Oviedo was supposed to be the left side, but he's not good enough either, so as soon as made the forward run the ball was lost and they were out of position. Both Barry and Besic were booked because Oviedo and Naismith misplaced simple passes and left the side exposed.

Oviedo, Naismith, Besic and even Coleman at the minute, need to sort out their basic passing. If you can't pass it 5 yards to a member of your own team then you shouldn't be playing for a side that aims to control possession. That's what is killing us week in week out and why we look vulnerable to the counter so often.

I consider Naisy the attacking nexus of our team. Most of our movement comes from him and his inventiveness and one touch passing...and there is no doubt he preoccupies defenders with his clever off the ball movement as well. By no means do I think he's the finished product. I have seen him occasionally misdirect passes and get involved in some silly incidents. But generally he is an indispensable cog in the Everton machine in my opinion (and I am pleased that our manager seems to see it that way as well).

Wonderful points you raise @deipnosophist

Our beloved little bulldog. To me, our Andy Gray of the modern Everton era.
Mr Steven John Naismith. Attacking midfielder extraordinaire.

Some call him "Naisy". Some call him "Stevie". I simply call him "Superstar"!!!
Those delicious vertical leaps that outjump much taller defenders.
Those cheeky runs that aren't rewarded by inferior teammates... as he is clearly far more a cerebral footballer.
The clinical, mouthwatering finishing that leaves us all open mouthed.
The in your face, bullying, antagonistic behaviour to opposition players.

Shall I go on?

Clearly after John Stones, IMHO, Everton's most gifted player. But definitely our most important player. In fact, and I kid you not, he may well be our most important player in a decade.

Tim Cahill? Covered. Wayne Rooney? Covered. Kevin Mirallas? Covered.

£32 million for Diego Costa? Meh
£38 million for Sergio Aguero? Double Meh

Our little Superstar Stevie would score 30 goals a season minimum with that quality around him. What a bargain ;)

Once again, like my man "Geads", this excitement machine has not reached his peak yet. We haven't seen his best. In fact, we are about to collectively salivate in awe at what we are going to experience on the pitch until 2019...yes I repeat 2019!!... from this "Scottish Messi" we have been privileged to witness in an Everton shirt.

mate, you just NAILED it. Post of the year?

I like Naismith, but he doesn't work as part of a front 3, it unbalances the whole side and he isn't good enough to justify that. Think we could do with taking him out of the side right now.

Some of the above comments are very harsh though. Over the past 12 months there haven't been many in the squad who've done better for us IMO.

Get rid of the other 2 then I say. Leave our Superstar alone. Can't be drooped. Ever!
