This idea came to me the other day as I was putting together a mix for someone. My thought was I wanted to put together a mix CD that told this person something about me through other people's songs.

Ya know how the best part of having friends you've known forever, is you don't have to explain things to each other? You just know all the references, get all the jokes, and can basically communicate in very few words?

Well if I asked you to put together a mix of, say 10 songs, that told the story of you, either because the lyrics said something literal about your experience, or because those songs just were such a personal, important part of your life...could you do it?

What are the 10 songs you could hand to someone and say "listen to this and you'll know more about me than you did before - intuitively"?

I don't think I'm quite as far down the road of self-discovery as the older members of the forum... so this is more of a RFUS EP!

Arcade Fire - My Body is a Cage

TV on the Radio - Dancing Choose

Radiohead - Climbing up the Walls

The Beatles - Let it Be

Nirvana - You Know You're Right

None of them will make any sense to anyone without context. I could apply some, but I'm not sure if that fits into the theme of the thread?

LOL we really should be renamed as its more a music forum with a bit of footy thrown in nowadays

I was thinking about asking for a music subforum, to take away some of the guilt I feel whenever I post another music thread... it kind of feels like a forum hijack!

That said, I figure if people don't care about music then well, they can ignore the threads. Clearly there are plenty of people on here who are opinionated music fans, with a diverse taste in music, and it all makes for good conversation.

Well the list can be anything you want. It might be as simple as naming your 10 favorite songs. Or the songs that resonated with you the most at a particular time. Like certain songs are rooted in a very specific memory or time in life. It could be anything. Obviously without context it may not make literal sense, but I've always said you can tell a lot about a person by the music they listen to.

Yep. Our musical preferences let everyone know we're smug, arrogant bastards!
